Dark Charizard 1st Edition PSA

Hey guys new to the forum and new to collecting Pokemon cards again, most of the cards I have are not graded, I have 1 graded card and that’s Charmander from Stromfront psa 9 nothing special, but I just bought a psa 6 Dark Chrizard 1st edition for 55$ on eBay and was wondering if that was a decent deal, and also if I should crack the paa case and put it with my other cards. Lmk what you think

I think it’s decently fair for a PSA 6. At that grade you probably could crack the case and the value would not change too much. The only risk is damaging the card while cracking the case. Personally, I would crack it since I would prefer it in a nice sleeved binder in that condition. On the other hand, it’s Charizard so price will only go up. It’s a nice card regardless.

Just make sure you dont damage it if cracked and check to make sure that it was graded properly before you crack it. Make sure there are no missed bends or damage that PSA botched which would make it’s value worse if cracked. You never know…

PSA 6 from such sets like Team Rocket is not so demand-y, despite that it’s a Charizard. PSA 9/10 dark charizards are relatively inexpensive to buy as of today. If I was you, I’d crack it open and put it inside the binder.

The value difference between PSA 6 and raw dark zard isn’t big, so no biggie.

True, it’s risky when cracking because you can damage the card especially when you have never done it before. Perhaps, use a sawblade or something similar to minimise risk?

Or just buy or use other very cheap PSA cards and practice away.

I would crack it since it’s only a PSA 6

I would keep the card. To mark a point in time where your love for Pokémon and Pokémon cards was rekindled. I pretty much do that with uhhh all my cards lol. For me it’s hard to sell them. Depends on the collector I assume.

Certain cards I understand. I have some mint cards that I don’t really need for my collection, but I’m holding as an investment. If it aint Near Mint, then I typically don’t mind selling it.

It’s your collection so how you choose to display it is up to you. With that said one of the reasons I got into grading cards was the protection it provides. Putting a card in a binder vs having it in a psa case is night and day difference in the amount of protection the card receives. Humidity, bending, uv protection, dust mite protection, etc.

I’ll also point out to the people saying it’s just a psa 6, we used to say the same thing with base 1st ed charizard. Now they’re going for four figures. Would I guess the same for dark charizard, not for the next five years, but it’s far easier to crack a case then it is putting a case back on and maybe it’ll be valued high enough that you wish you kept it on.
