Hey folks, we have an OPENED box of Base Set 1st, and we’re selling the packs box break style.
Using random.org, each pack will be assigned AT RANDOM to one of the people who made a purchase. Maybe you get a heavy pack with Blastoise art, maybe you get a light pack with Charizard art.
This is your chance to get a TRUE random pack!
Here’s a video showing the 12 heavy packs are present:
They were asking way too much for the two boxes they have considering what they’ve been selling for and what they bought them for. At this price they’re getting what they wanted for that box if people pay the $2k per pack. Not everyone has $70k for a box but a lot more people might be tempted to gamble $2k on a pack that could have a holo.
You’d not only have to get a Holo, but have it be PSA 10 plus have it not be the lesser liked ones like Magneton, poliwhirl, zapdos, etc to make back your money…very very risky.
It was always going to happen. Everyone wants them and there’s only so many out there.
Joe even said that they’re basing it off 1 pack which sold at Pokemon Place for $2K a few days ago… which is weird because you can still find packs south of $1500 on ebay.
My conspiracy theory is DAC bought that overpriced pack before posting this so they could justify $2K a pack but I doubt that’s anywhere close to the truth.
DAC has had some shady figures work for them, etc. so I wouldn’t put it past a company like this to have an employee come up with a strategy like that.
He’s going too far to build the appearance of not tampering. That on its own makes me suspicious. There’s MANY ways to work around that staging.
And 2000.00??? The drugs must be getting better in the Empire State lol.
I would like to think that this is legitimate and honest. But for a company to be openly weighing packs and showing how it’s done then selling them for an extortionate amount is just unethical.
Like earlier posts there’s a tiny chance you get a holo, then it needs to be a 10 and a popular Pokemon to at least make it a good purchase.
I understand they are trying to make money but jeez!! Not like this.
At least the guy who opened his box and sold his single packs a couple months ago did it in a fun way and at a fair price.
To be honest the $1,000 was well under what untampered packs were worth @admiral. I have no idea what shadypenguin was thinking as he could have sold out just as fast at $1200 per pack if not a fair bit higher.
@jcincy101 you can’t forget the 10 other cards. Also you can’t forget that you could have a $20-$50k charizard in there (low chance, but still a chance) so it has to be a gamble and most would lose but some could certainly win.
I know $1,000 was way too low and $2,000 definitely feels high but honestly if I needed to move a box I would be looking for closer to $2k per pack than $1k for sure. Probably $1,500 feels just about right for me making it a $54,000 box. I am still of the idea that it would be preferable to have 12 heavy slots and 24 light slots. The video showed they weighed them anyways, just take some of the gamble and ALL of the questions out. If you pay more you get heavy and if you pay less you get light and everyone is happy and it is all fair and transparent. As @garyis2000 pointed out it would be hard to trust true randomness in their situation. They can easily skim a few packs for them or their buddies depending on how they sell the slots and how they do the draw. Those 12 true gamblers wanting to open packs can pay $2,250 for a heavy pack or folks can pay $1,125 for a light pack at my $54k pricing. With DACardworld current hopes for pricing you’d need to be at something like $3k per heavy pack and $1,500 per light which again seems high in this current market.
I definitely see what gottaketchumall is saying; returns are higher if you sell small amounts as opposed to volume. Having said that, realistically, if you DO pull a holo, and it’s not Blastoise, Charizard, Venusaur, Chansey, or Raichu, you’re already in trouble. And even if you pull one of those 5 there is still only a 10-20% chance it pulls the 10. That’s just bad economics. Your odds are better playing blackjack. $2,000 is flat out too much for honestly any 1st Edition booster pack. I get it; there are other cards that could also pull 10’s that MIGHT make up for it, but the odds of pulling a 10 Wartortle, Dragonair, or Lass are probably even worse.
1/3 X 1/5 = .0666667
Above is the odds of pulling ANY holo, multiplied by a very generous 20% PSA 10 rate for said holo… .0666667%. (I understand Charizard and Blastoise can grade slightly lower than 10 and you’ll have an easier time of breaking even/profiting.)
$2,000 for 15 seconds of nostalgia/excitement and those odds? Not to mention the time it takes PSA to grade, and get your card back to you. By that time the fun is way over, and you’re left stirring over the bad purchase just to have a few seconds of fun. You also could have turned that money over by the time PSA sends it back to you and be purchasing other cards that you want. I love gambling, but yeah, no thanks.
$2,000 isn’t that crazy. The YouTuber who sold their packs at $850-1k was well under market. This is why they sold out immediately. There were people crawling over each other to get in contact with him as the prices were stupid low. I even had messages about selling any packs I purchased.
I agree about the bird in the hand comparison. I mention this multiple times in patreon videos. If getting the individual cards with high grades is the priority, there are much safer options. However some want to keep the packs sealed. Therefore this is the safest way to get a real pack.
DAcardworlds Box break is just a business trying to make money. They paid a premium and need to make a profit. Ultimately If people don’t like the price, feel free to buy them for less.
