This ranking was made more than 15 years ago by Devir Brazil
These cards were NOT selected by me. Also I have not chosen why are they there or their order. In fact, the purpose of this article is to bring to surface this ranking and see what people think about it. In addition to this, this ranking is not available anymore in surface internet. 10) Protective Orb 90/115 (Unseen Forces):
One of the most important factors in battles is the Weakness of the card. Devir Brazil affirms that it’s not worth a card with high HP and powerful moves, but it can be defeated with 1 or 2 attacks of a certain Energy.
Devir gives the example of Dark Dragonite. Despite being strong, it can be destroyed easily by Colorless Pokémon. With Protective Orb you can cancel the weakness of Pokémon. That’s why Devir places it here.
9) Ho-Oh 27/115 (Unseen Forces):
Devir affirms that for most players it’s more important having Basic Pokémon (that fight in equal conditions than Stage 1 or Stage 2) than Evolved Pokémon. The reason why Devir places Ho-Oh in 9th place is because Ho-Oh can enter to battle since turn 1 due to it’s a Basic Pokémon … and its attack “Sacred Fire” can be destructive for Basic Pokémon. In addition to this, Ho-Oh can be hard to defeat due to it has a good HP of 80.
8) Boost Energy 98/115 (Unseen Forces):
Devir is aware of disadvantages of Boost Energy such as the use of this card. Boost Energy can only be attached to Evolved Pokémon and it can’t be used to pay retreat. However, this card can “accelerate” any Deck. Even “Very Slow” Decks that need too many Energy to be attached in order to work correctly. Devir gives the example of Cyclone Energy + Dark Tyranitar that can use its most powerful move in the 3rd turn.
7) Hitmontop 26/115 (Unseen Forces):
Devir mentions that Unseen Forces brings a Poké-Body known as “Stages of Evolution” for every Pokémon that evolves from a Baby Pokémon. This Poké-Body gives additional characteristics if those Pokémon have entered to battle since they were Baby Pokémon.
Between all of them, Devir highlights Hitmontop as one of the best of them. In case of Hitmontop, “Stages of Evolution” Poké-Body makes that each attack made against Hitmontop damage the Active Pokémon by 20 points. This means that the more attacks your opponent’s Pokémon make against your Hitmontop, the probabilities of knocking out your own Pokémon are higher.
6) Blissey ex 101/115 (Unseen Forces):
Devir mentions both Chansey and Blissey to be known as “Tank Pokémon” and they’re known for healing HP. Devir describes both as “Walls”. In the case of Blissey ex, Devir highlights the Poké-Power “Blissful Support” that allows to remove all damage counters from your Pokémon and with the attack “Rollout” (that makes 60 damage), in words of Devir, they make “honour” of their “title” of “Tank Pokémon”
5) Curse Powder 80/115 (Unseen Forces):
Curse Powder can damage the Pokémon that knocked out your Pokémon that has this card attached to it by 30 points. They mention that this card can be combined with Pokémon such as Hitmontop due to the Pokémon that defeats Hitmontop will be damaged by 50 points. It’s described as “Fast, Direct and Extremely Efficient” and can be used in any type of Decks.
4) Cyclone Energy 99/115 (Unseen Forces):
Devir mentions that one of the most used techniques by players is to start the battle with a weak Pokémon as Active Pokémon and putting the main Pokémon in the Bench. While Active Pokémon is doing its best, the player can evolve and attach Energies to the main Pokémon. Cyclone Energy changes this: This Energy provides Colorless Energy and also makes that your Opponent’s Active Pokémon is replaced by a Bench Pokémon. With this, players can get rid of all Larvitar and Dratini that enter to battle before reaching their final stage.
3) Legendary Dogs 113/115, 114/115 & 115/115 (Unseen Forces):
Well, here’s a tie between the Legendary Dogs from Johto Region.
Pokémon have unique abilities and moves. The reason why Devir places them here is because those 3 have a “Destructive Move” that, with only 3 Energies attached, can make 70 points of damage. However, there’s a cost to pay if you have less prizes than your opponent.
- In case of Entei, the consequence is that you have to discard the first 10 cards of your hand
- In case of Raikou, each of your Pokémon will be damaged by 40 points
- In case of Suicune, you have to discard all Energy cards attached to your Pokémon
Despite the cost of the attack is extremely high when you have less prizes than your opponent, these Pokémon work with a strategy in order to change this. For this reason, when you’re losing, you have to make sure to put one of the 3 Legendary Dogs and “try to put the game to your favor” and when you can define the game, you have to make sure to pay the cost and use to win the match.
2) Cleffa 21/115 (Unseen Forces):
The Revenge of the Eek.
Despite not having the same ability as the Cleffa from Neo Genesis, the move “Eeeeeeek” gives Cleffa a lot of advantage. Having in consideration that with this rule the use of Supporter cards (that generally are cards that allow to draw cards), the only way to have extra cards is via Poké-Powers. Even if Cleffa is defeated in a few turns, only the advantage of draw 6 cards during those turns compensate a lot that disadvantage.
1) Tyranitar ex 111/115 (Unseen Forces):
With the expansions Emerald and Unseen Forces many Dark Pokémon Decks (such as Dragonite or Tyranitar) disappeared from Tournaments from one day to another. However, there’s a fact that is absolutely true. According to Devir, they’re still useful for battles! … Tyranitar ex is the prove of this. With a massive HP of 160 and moves that can damage from 30 to 140 points. (with only 4 Energies). In addition to this, the moves “Shatter” and “Derail” can help you to improve your strategy.
Devir is aware of the disadvantage of this massive dinosaur that is weak to 2 Energy types: Grass and Fighting. Despite this, they totally recommend us to use this card because it has lots of benefits.
Final words:
That’s the end of Devir Brazil’s Ranking of Unseen Forces cards.
