Did I rip myself off?

So, I recently saw this listing on eBay for an ungraded set of fossil unlimited. I contacted the eBay seller and got pictures of the backs of the cards. They looked very nice, and I ended up winning the bid for a grand total of 165$ at checkout. That’s when the buyer’s remorse hit me. I mean, it hit me hard. I know the market is on the uptick and a lot of people are buying, which makes me feel like I might have paid too much. What do u guys think? Did I? All opinions are welcome.

If you have buyers remorse, just resell it and learn to buy what you like

It really depends on the condition, if they’re all at least PSA 9 condition, then that’s a pretty good deal.

Every purchase I’ve made is a mix of excitement and regret. Even the no-brainer mega deals I still slightly regret spending money on. With time I learned to trust my gut and not listen to my internal tightwad, to some extent.

Well first off buyers remorse and ripping yourself off are different things. Every person with a good amount of experience has hit a point were they think they have paid too much for an item and later looked back to realize it was an amazing purchase. This is likely your experience of initial regret but I believe in the future you will look back on this moment and be happy you made this purchase. Time is your safety net.

But at this point all you can do is take this as a learning experience. Every success and failure has something to take away from it. Maybe next time search a little harder, wait a little longer, or just buy something different all together.

Uffffff, reality check

You should only feel bad if you “underpay” for an item. That’s what really hurts the game. Overpaying is super good for the future health of the hobby.

Sound like you spend too much on something you know too little about or care too little about.
Like Gary says, the price should not matter so much. Buy what you enjoy and what you can spare.
If you get the feeling of ripping yourself off maybe collection pokemon cards is not your thing.
Or start smaller and find out what you really like!

I purchase cards, potentially have that guilty feeling as I should save money. Then after a minute I realise this is the reason I have a job. Then proceed to buy even more.

Buy and hold and you’ll never be truly out of pocket.

You one day hope for the feeling that you got 'em. Today you were on the other end. Congrats!

This! When you can comprehend that there is “winning” & “losing” when buying anything in this world then you can truly be content with yourself. It happens with almost EVERY sale unless it is between two good mates that don’t want anything out of it for themselves except to make each other happy. If you buy things for the personal love of the item (and you dont delve into any other stats) you will never overpay.

Seems about right to me for a complete set of fossil. It’s not like you paid $500 or something… I wouldn’t sweat it :+1:.

I feel live ive paid more & was content with it, multiple times lmao. If youre that stressed about The $165, pm me

Well said!

As @sacari said, you may have buyers remorse at the moment but in the future you may look back on this as a good deal and be glad you made the deal. Either way, as with most collectibles if you hold the items for a while, they are most likely to shoot up in price and if you don’t wish to hold onto them, you can sell for a profit.

I will tell you of a personal experience that recently unfolded for me which might help set your mind at ease…
Ok, so a few years ago I was looking to buy a few cards to complete a set of cards I wanted for my personal collection. There wasn’t many listings for the card I really wanted and finally I found the last one after obtaining 2 of the more expensive items on my wish list. The card in question was selling at the time for around $80 and the seller was firm at $120, so I asked them if they could work with me any and they got pretty snippy with me. Between the 50% upcharge and the snippy seller, I decided to forego buying the card from this seller. Then life got in the way of collecting and I couldn’t search for the card as fervently as I had in past and like only around 10 copies were for purchase in 2-3 years. Fast forward to the recent explosion in prices, the said card is selling for $300-400 every listing and I actually was able to snipe an auction for what is a “good deal” for $232, however I still think that if I had just went ahead and purchased the card at the 50% markup from that snippy seller a few years back, I wouldn’t have paid almost double the price. I am still happy with the card I have though as it is a much ‘stronger’ 10 and I still got a good deal in a way, as you can’t win every time and all in all I am content with my win/lose ratio in collecting!

Hope my story can help give you a little insight on the value of making deals sooner than later, because the longer you wait, the more life will get in the way and the price is most likely to increase!

I paid 2 grand for a PSA 6 1st ed shadowless Charizard like 2 months ago. I was stressing for a bit as it was the biggest pokemon purchase I had ever made. I honestly might have paid the most for a 6 at the time. Now a days that’s low. Up or down im happy to own that card.

If you’re worried about $165, maybe you shouldn’t be spending your money on pieces of cardboard in the first place

I’ve said this before - the people who end up getting the best deals in the long-run are usually the same people who pay high prices for things at the time of purchase.

honestly that’s what I kept reminding myself when making the purchase. That and how I have just recently graduated and got a decent job and this has been a purchase I’ve always wanted to make!
