Sabrina’s Gengar and Erika’s Venusaur due to having more exposed holo. Also pretty much every holo from Neo Discovery and Neo Revelation due to print lines.
I recently managed to snag a super clean raw Umbreon with flawless holo, only for it to have 20/80 top/bottom centering.
I read this more often.
And now I wonder; how are pre-release cards stamped? Aren’t they just stamped on a full sheet (resulting in pre-release Raichu ‘oopsie’) or do they hire an intern just handling one card at a time through a special press to stamp them?
Really interesting insight that makes perfect sense. I wonder if the same issue comes up in other sets?
It is interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts. I think at the end of the day even though we get so frustrated trying to find these difficult to find cards in mint condition, it also is a lot of fun and makes the cards very valuable if you can find them.
You mean like just loose cards and not like e.g. the movie promo’s in the plastic wrapping?
Damn… indeed that kills quality. I remember how I used to receive promo cards from Score Entertainment for DBZ, just punch of them loose in a just-a-bit-to-big box.
Pulled one of these recently and it has probably one of the worst factory lines I’ve ever seen. Got so excited because I bought loose packs and didn’t expect a holo, then I get one and first thing I see is _______________
In the world of baseball cards, I’ve heard that the first and last cards in some sets are hard to find in good condition. Kids used to exclusively use elastic bands for storage and the first and last cards where the ones that took the brunt.
Moral of the story is store cards in random order?
These cards like the persian / magneton / moltres have high foil surface area, so more likely to get scratched. The images of the pokemon are relatively small on the cards.
That’s a good point. I sent in a few 1st edition base holos recently that all came back NM 7 except the Venusaur was a PSA 8. I think solely because there is a lot less holo showing through so less overall scratching.
Yeah, i think they are strict on these scratches. The edge wear / centering, maybe a teeny bit more leniant upon recently. But yeah, really at the end of the day, it’s the luck of the draw. But Psa apparently goes through 3 different people looking at your cards, so they take the average from those 3 right?
They have alot of standards, i don’t know about honestly… but i’m sure scott of Gary would as they are affiliated moreso with psa directly.
