So at the auction that’s right by my house, last week this pokemon card collection showed up! I paid 25 bucks for everything. It was by far the most unique collection ive purchased yet. Cards ranged from base set to 2011 sets, with the majority of it being ex series cards. Here’s all that was in it! This gets interesting, so stick with it!
About 90ish reverse holos from diamond and pearl base set - sets in 2011 I dont know. All cards MP-NM
Around 50 holos from diamond and pearl base set - 2011 sets. Also all ranging from MP-NM
Non holo rares from all sets. Ranging from HP-NN
Minus the raikou on top, this is all base set unlimited through power keepers holos and reverse holos of all rarity designations. A little over 100. These were all pretty much LP-M. The raikou was super holo bleed and I really liked it so it made it in this pile I’m keeping.
These see through plastic cards that are in some foreign language, I had never seen these before. Anyone know anything about these?
A stack of like 15 of these things. They are like the original action flipz that were popular when pokemon was new in the us. These are made by a different company and are all 2nd and 3rd gen pokemon.
What’s a collection without some sweet fakes!
Some yugioh cards, I know hardly anything about yugioh. There’s like 10 holos and like 20 shiney lettered cards. The big stack is all non holo or non shiney lettered cards. I looked up the holos, they were all like 1-4 dollar cards.
So here is the highlights! First is a wartortle stage error card! I was absolutely astonished to get this. It was beyond completely random. There was hardly any wotc cards, maybe 10% of the whole collection. So this was the highlight of it all. Unfortunately if graded itll probably be a 7. I think I’ll grade it though!
Next up is two base set first edition cards, abra and pokeflute! And a fighting symbol error diglett! Once again I was shocked to see another wotc error. And then shocked again to see two base first editions!
6 ex series EX cards!
And it keeps getting better, he randomly had a ridiculous amount of ex series holo and reverse holo energies! I hardly ever get these in collections I buy. Almost all these are NN!
These pokemon trading figure game cards! I have never in my 2+ years of collecting gotten these in a collection. I didn’t even know these existed til the Hartford pokemon collectors event. Anyone know much about these?
Here’s that super holo bleed raikou I mentioned earlier! I think holo bleeds freaking rule.
Here’s the boxes they came in. All cards were haphazardly loose in these boxes. And not a single card was sleeved. All sleeved cards were done by me while going through everything. It’s absolutely amazing that any card came out of these boxes in anything above LP condition. There were also digimon cards, bahkugon cards, ben 10 cards, and other various child aimed cards in them.
This box was not nearly stacked in rows like this is pictured. This is the uncommon and commons and damaged cards. I’d say about 1500? The majority of this is early ex era stuff.
So this kid had a like for butchering cards haha. Here are some of the cards who suffered the knife! Its real unfortunate for the holo energies he gutted…
He also liked to make his own cards using the butchered cards, frankensteining them together to his fancy haha. Here are his creations! I thoroughly enjoyed when I came across these, they gave me a good laugh! Especially the ghastly (fart). Creative lad I must say.
This part was really cool, I got to see the man behind the cards. Here’s the little rascal responsible for this collection! He even had a birthday pikachu that had his name filled in on the line in the name (which was also a first for me, I’d always gotten unmolested birthday pikachus). I’m gonna try and look this dude up on Facebook and talk to him! I’d be interested to see what he says.
I hope you enjoyed seeing all this as much as I did while I was doing through it!
Just 25 USD for all that? I’d say you did pretty well.
To answer some of your questions:
The transparent cards are in French. I looked up the Jolteon on Bulbapedia, and saw the Voltali in the “other languages” section. (Only then I noticed your picture below it of the back, in which case I would have recognized the text as French right away ). Only French and German (and Japanese/Korean of course) have their own different names for Pokémon. Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese are all still in the same names as in English.
The Trading Figure Card Game cards are pretty hard to find. I’m sure each of those individually are already worth at least twice times more than what you’ve paid for everything combined, haha. I would personally love to buy (just) one of them if you’ve looking at selling them at some point (the duplicated Switch perhaps?).
I think cards from the set that Raikou came in had almost always holo bleed, although it’s indeed quite abundant for that Raikou and looks very cool!
Overall, thanks for sharing, and well done on the purchase. Oh, and rofl at those ‘custom’ cards put together as Frankenstein’s Monster with tape. I’m sure @garyis2000 would love those, hahaha
Absolutely amazing find! I’ve bought dozens of massive wotc collections and come across hundreds of wartortles always hoping for the evolution box error.
If you want to sell it ungraded let me know! My sqwartoise collection is crying out for one!
Honestly if the cards were cut and put together more nicely, I think they could look really cool. Also the Porygon-Z Lv.x is a fake card, be sure to compare other cards to it. The font and color is probably just slightly off, and it should have a holo silver border.
Ahh French, sweet! Have you ever seen these see through cards in any language before?
And if I decide I wanna get rid of one of the trading figure game cards, it’s yours man. And yeah you’re correct, the era that raikou is from there is a toonnnn of holo bleeds, it was super common. There was alot of them in this collection. The raikou was just the best! Thanks for chiming in!
Unfortunately for you my friend I’m not gonna be selling it. Sorrrrry! Both error wartortles I own came randomly in collections I purchased having no clue they were in there.
The first one I bought was in a binder, I didn’t even catch it the first 2 times I went through it. Then one day I was re-going through my whole collection looking for 1999-2000 print base set cards and I spotted it. It graded a 9, I was stoked!
Nope, can’t say I have ever seen these cards. Although I see loads of non-TCG cards and don’t really remember all of them. I only know the well-known ones like Bandai, Topps, and such.
Then I will hopefully await your message for the duplicated Switch (or any other, I don’t really care which one it is, would just like to own one ).
Awesome find! Saw your note on attempting to contact the guy on Facebook and got curious if you had any luck with it. Would be very interesting to hear what he thinks of this small piece of his childhood finding a new home.
That was a fun ride! I thought the highlight was going to be the error Wartortle, but then it kept going (including the Frankenstein cards ). Thanks for sharing.
Such a fun collection. The custom cards reminds me of the stupid things my sister and I would do all the time back when we were kids. Thanks for the share! You got some awesome things out of that!
