Do the Southern Islands Binder-rings Damage Cards?

Hey guys! I know that many binders with rings are not great for storage, but I’m wondering if the Southern Islands Binder from the neo era damages cards? I love that binder and would love to use it for part of my collection, but only if the rings don’t press on the cards

Also, do you know of any other vintage binders that don’t damage cards? I know about the small blue binder with no rings, and it’s a great binder, but i just wish it were a 3x3 binder rather than a 2x2

Thanks for the help!

Ring binders damage cards when they are overstuffed or poorly handled, if you dont overstuff or try to turn all pages at once and it should be fine. D ring binders minimize the chances of that happening. Ringless binders remove the chances of that but are limited with no room for expansion and may warp cards if they are held by an elastic band.

I’d avoid using it. There’s always a slim chance of it resulting in a dent. I used to have ring binders and was slowly replacing them with non ring binders and was very careful when putting my ring binders away after opening them but still ended up getting dents on the top page cards of one of my ring binders one day.

As for what lyleberr said, I have non ring binders with an elastic band and simply don’t use the band. Pretty easy fix to that potential issue.

I only ever use the 480 card zip binders from the likes of Ultra Pro and Vault X. I would never even risk a ring binder these days now that we know better.

So many times I’ve bought “NM” WOTC holos with the numbers 1, 4, and 7 and been crushed inside when I see that dent on the left edge :weary:

I used D ring binders for roughly a decade and have seen no issues with my cards when I started to move them to ringless binders. Just dont overstuff your binds and I think you will be fine

I’ve still got a complete Southern Islands set that’s been sat in the original ring binder from new 20+ years ago, with no damage to any of the cards.

They’ve been kept in there alone & I haven’t opened the binder much over the years, so as others have said, just be gentle & don’t overstuff it.
