Does card fading effect PSA grading?

This just turned up and surprisingly the right side of the card is quite faded. I hadn’t expected this as couldn’t see it so clearly in the pictures and video provided prior to purchase. As it’s a new cert I’m slightly surprised it managed to get a 10, but am naive to grading requirements and so am looking for some clarity. Have provided a picture next to another recent expedition card purchase.

As I’m in the land of fakes just want some clarity before funds are released. If it is completely legit just a “weaker 10” I’d take responsibility as the buyer quite happily.

Any response appreciated!

Some will say it’s damaged, some will say it’s a sun-induced ink error variant. PSA gave it a 10, it must be ok :person_tipping_hand:

Typically fading leads to a lower grade at PSA. I am guessing that they missed it.

You do not haha! I really couldn’t see the issue well until the card was in hand unfortunately.

Fortunately I’ve spoken with the seller who accepts it should have been mentioned and offered a refund.

Thanks for the replies and I’ll be much more careful in future

That one looks like it’s been in a slab for 90% of the time since the card was released, so it’s very likely to have faded in the slab.

The good part is the seller is willing to work with you. Sometimes grading companies miss things like this.

I agree. I actually didn’t mention a refund, the seller offered, which was very nice of him. Will be keeping an eye out for a clean copy in the meantime.
