I pretty much have no experience with PSA grading, so I apologize if I seem ignorant on the matter, but I don’t think this should be a 10. It has obvious damage on the bottom left of the back of the card (see 6th picture). From my understanding, PSA 10 doesn’t necessarily mean “literally no flaws”, but I think that’s too much damage to deserve a 10.
It seems only those two white spots on the back. The card appeal on the front is flawless and that’s what is more important for PSA when grading, I believe. Yes it is a borderline 10, but a 10 nonetheless. It is nice that the seller shows the back so the buyer can decide.
I believe the white spot on the back, not on the edges, is in the case.
I would grade it a 9, but I’ve definitely seen 10’s that are worse (anyone see the 1st Ed Feraligatr and Heracross floating around). Personally, I’d be ok with owning this one.
I would have mentally prepared my self for a psa 9 with that card, i guess it’s a lucky submission. I do have an 8 that looks better than that, which i will be showcasing to efour sometime this year.
Examples like these always give a big confidence boost about the cards in my submission stack. The grader could have given a 9 if they so chose to, but the 10 is also totally feasible if all other parameters are in spec. Rejoice, as this is a sign of mercy by our PSA overlords!
Some of your 10s will be weak. Some of your 10s will be solid. And some of your 10s should crossover to BGS Pristine. It’s just a fact of life. Don’t blame the seller. If you end up not liking the card, resell it and look for a better 10.
I see a strong trend questioning PSA10’s at the moment.
Yes, there is a white dot. Could be dust particle, could be damage. But nonetheless, the PSA professional grader gave it a 10. People should stop looking for PRISTINE straight-10’s (especially for the normal PSA10 pricing). If the grader gave it a 10 the card is with in all parameters set by PSA. And don’t forget; a part of the grade is also appeal.
The thing is, PSA dropping the ball on not giving 9.5’s. This card (and many other questionables at the moment) should be 9.5’s while they are given a 10. They should really start doing this. They’ve been giving 7.5’s and 8.5’s a while a go and stopped doing it, but I think it would be a great thing if they start doing so.
It’s a beautiful card, with a mark on the back. And I really don’t know anyone that has a whole with PSA graded cards all showing the back side.
I would say no way it deserves to be classified as being gem mint with that damage in the bottom left corner. I understand even pack fresh cards do have some whitening sometimes cuz of the way it was packaged or cut from factory, but that looks to be more than that. PSA 9 in my opinion but not a 10.
The only logical, and reasonable thing for PSA to do is simply recall all the 9 and 10 grade pokemon cards. Then they need to regrade them all just to make sure…it really is the easiest and only way to resolve this situation we are having.
