"E4's Favorite" Polls - Archive

Overview Why I began doing these polls in December 2023 as a way to see how the community here ranks cards of various Pokemon or types of cards. Sometimes we may have an idea of what is #1, but what might round out the top 10? It’s hard to guess, and we always end up surprised in the end. It is also a great avenue to learn about new cards of Pokemon we may not have seen before. The time has come, thank you! I think i’m quite biased voting these so i tried to be more picky than usual to really think which are the ones i really enjoy the most, was somewhat difficult task! I tried to sort out my top 5 too and while the top spots were obvious for me the rest of them i had to really think thoroughly. Komiya grimer didn’t make the cut since even though he’s my favourite artist the grimer doesn’t belong in my favourite arts from him, but it’s still right there after the first five. Btw it just crossed my mind that there was a possibility to add both banned and international version of team rocket grimer

Now the long wait for the upcoming team rocket set and the possibility for AR grimer card

I’m biased with this one because Muk is my favourite Pokemon. In particular Alolan Muk.

There are some really good arts but like always, some really forgettable ones as well.

Koike’s take on a Stadium Muk, this made my jaw drop the first time I saw the EX Dragon set list in all its glory. Completely underappreciated. Psychic type Poison boooo.

I feel like just based on artwork I find myself actually enjoying the SWSH and SV artworks more, which kind of surprised me! That said, Grimer has some great derpy arts early on!

Grimer really has one of the best rookie cards. I want a dark, grimy and sketchy environment for a grimer/muk artwork and I feel like that’s really under utilized in most artworks. Double crisis is the only more recent artwork that captures grimer/muks vibe really well.

Damn! I cant believe how stark difference is between Grimer and Muk when you have the cards side by side. Grimer just feels like one particular minion from Despicable Me, always the hype Pokemon but constantly surprised by your actions.

On the other hand, I find the Muk cards to be more interesting because they represent the unknown and lean towards more Eldritch horror in themes. Like a force of nature (or human actions) that cannot be stopped.

I’m glad someone agrees! Definitely my favorites of the bunch, although I might be biased, since Double Crisis is my favorite set in general. So many great artworks among that little set.

The Fossil Grimer is also still among the best after that; the CGI Aquapolis Grimer is just so bad it’s good ; Mitsuhiro Arita is killing it as usual with the EX Team Rocket Returns Muk; and from the more recent releases, I like the 151 set Muk.

As for designs in general, I’d put them in the order Muk (only the second 10 I’ve voted for a Pokémon in all these polls thus far I think ); Grimer/Alolan Grimer same place; and then Alolan Muk. I’m personally not a big fan of the colors of Alolan Muk tbh (sorry @D3F14NC3 and @joponnes).
I do feel like the face of Grimer in most of the TCG artworks are pretty bad, ngl… Even though I like it in it’s generic Ken Sugimori artwork.
