"E4's Favorite" Polls - Archive

Overview Why I began doing these polls in December 2023 as a way to see how the community here ranks cards of various Pokemon or types of cards. Sometimes we may have an idea of what is #1, but what might round out the top 10? It’s hard to guess, and we always end up surprised in the end. It is also a great avenue to learn about new cards of Pokemon we may not have seen before. As time goes on and the quantity of these becomes overwhelming, I figured it would be beneficial to have them all g…

I have no idea why but looking at the arts all together, so many of them are either in similar poses/have similar vibes and just don’t stand out to me. Not sure why, but most of them just seem lacking to me.

The McDonalds Larvitar is an exception. That’s my spirit animal. Bought 2 copies. One for my collection and one for my desk at work since I will angrily eat cookies at my desk when I’m mad at whatever bs gets thrown at me at work.

Larvitar has to be one of the best pokemon designs of all time.

Ttar is amazing (second favorite psuedo after Dpult), but it seems people struggle illustrating it with its awkward bulky body

Pupitar ofc struggles with being essentially a cocoon, but still not a bad design by any means

many do feel samesy for sure at least with Ptar and Ttar, but Ltar has so much personality. There is a lot of nuance among all of the art ranging from cute/innocent to a menacing/dangerous creature

Yeah of all 3, Larvitar is the most varied in its artwork. Which is nice. Would like to see it trying to be intimidating against something, seeing as to how it’s always angry.

3 Things I learned from this poll:

• This evoline definitely had a pretty consistent golden era for artwork.

• People are sleeping on the Pupitar art - I was surprised how good it was myself until I really paid attention.

• More a question really - Besides Kaiju inspiration, is anyone getting Power Rangers vibes? A lot of the sets with full evolutions looked like 3 team members. XD

T Promo Tyranitar ex has a special place in my soul because it was one of the first 4 Trainers Magazines I’ve bought … It was one of the ones that started my expedition trying to find all those magazines … It has been a slow process, but I’m happy with what I got during all this time …

For me it’s impossible not relating T Promo Tyranitar ex line with Trainers Magazine Vol.20 … Saw it and got my vote inmediately …

e-Card era Larvitar line was awesome … it was the best era for the Pokémon in question … but my favourite artworks of Larvitar/Pupitar/Tyranitar are the T Promo ones …

Neo sets have many strong contenders but I think VS/e series had best arts overall, Aquapolis Tyranitar is absolute GOAT.

While looking at all cards I already forgot how many of them include a flying Pupitar.

Perhaps I’m in the minority, but this is probably the least number of votes I’ve put in in a while. A lot of the cards just feel very similar!

E-series felt like the strongest era to me (the Larvitar from the McDonald’s set is one of my favorites!) and of course the alternate arts/art rares kill it as always!
