I’m trying to get some information for myself about the various participation prizes given at the early Pokemon tournaments. So far I have this list that may or may not be correct, can someone confirm or provide subsequent information? Thanks!
1997 Pokemon Card Game Official Tournament - None
1998 Lizardon Mega Battle - None
1998 Kamex Mega Battle - Kamex Computer Error - White R (<50 copies)
1999 Tropical Mega Battle - Tropical Wind (<50 copies) and Bilingual Exeggutor with different bottom print (<50 copies)?
1999 Super Secret Battle -None (Or was tropical wind at each, <100 copies?, Or was Exeggutor at one with Tropical Wind at the other?)
2000 Tropical Mega Battle -9th Lucky Stadium(<50 copies)
If I’ve missed any please let me know.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Before anyone gets mad, in no way am I trying to tell anyone that this was how it was! I’m just looking for information.
Does anyone know anything about any of these cards? I’d really like to at least get some supplementary information about what the participation cards were at the 1999 TMB and SSB and their approximate numbers.
I kno smpratte would have the most info on this type of thing. You should message him.
Yes there were a few others given to participants. I do not know of any cards given out at the SSB tournaments. The TMB definitely had the most participant cards distributed.
All of the one’s you mentioned are correct. The 1999 TMB also had phone cards that you would choose from an envelope at random after winning a match under 15 minutes. I guess this would technically be a prize card, but it was available to the participants only.
Another prize card, or set of prize cards were the 2001 VS cards that were given to the competitors at the 2001 and 2002 TMB tournaments.
The copies on the 1999 Tropical Wind are greater in number than the 9th Lucky Stadium. The 9th Lucky Stadium was only given out at the TMB 2000 tournament.
Last but not least, the Kamex White R. I do not know the exact amount of copies of this card but I always placed it with the 9th lucky stadium. However, I have personally seem more copies of the Kamex than the 9th. I would say I have seen double the amount including both private and public sales. This is not definitive proof there are more of Kamex, but in my experience, it leads me to believe there might of been another possible distribution.
Great thread you linked me to, thank you so much for replying!
Hey guys I know I’m bringing up an old thread but I just had another question on the 1999 Tropical Wind card specifically. As you all know it seems there are so many more '99
Tropical Wind’s as there are say 9th Lucky Stadiums or Kamex Computer Errors, the going prices for these cards reflect this.
Was the 1999 Tropical Wind a participation prize for the Challenge Road conferences leading up to the TMB or was it for the TMB itself? It doesn’t make sense to me that they would have both the Exeggutor and the Tropical Wind as participation cards for the actual TMB and there are so many more Tropical Wind cards available.
Thanks in advance!
I dont know the answer to your question… but the Tropical wind 1999 has the TMB logo in the bottom… so I suppose it was not given out at the challenge road leading to the TMB… also there would be even more of this card around…
What I was wondering is, if there wasn’t a trophy card given out at the TMB itself… I mean, the TMB trophy cards were given out at the qualifying stages leading towards the TMB… but at the TMB itself where there trophy cards? it could be possible that nobody of us heard about them since there would only be about 3 or so in existence…
I was always under the impression that the TMB cards were given out leading up to the event and I would assume at the actual event the winners got medals or something. I don’t know about tropical wind though, PSA even has it listed as challenge road for some of them (not that PSA knows what they’re talking about). I would assume that someone early on sent one in and labelled it as Challenge road, that’s all that got me thinking.
Yeah… I just thought perhaps they only gave out the medals at the TMB itself…
Well I think PSA must get their information from somewhere why should they otherwise know which tournament the pika trophies would be? but i really dont know where they get the info
Hahaha google. Seriously, those goes don’t know their right from their left when it comes to Pokemon. (I still love them ) They are slowly catching on though…as it seems a lot more high end collectors are going the PSA route so I’m sure that helps.
Haha okay… I didnt know how good their know-how is… perhaps they will one day know all the cecessary things about our trophy cards
Hey, I just wanted to clarify something about the 1999 Tropical Mega Battle. I was at this tournament and the Promo Exeggutor card we received is identical to the one that came out in the Japanese magazine the same year. I’ve looked into it and there is no difference in the text at the bottom of the card at all. It is kind of disappointing, but I do have a silver medal to show for it.
