So i thought that like many in the hobby, I would have a go at a opening a ebay store and listing some items to help generate some income to put towards other cards for my collection.
I had opened a account and registered for a store. Done all my verification and listing my first item on the store.
Then i contact ebay to confirm that all was done correctly as i did not want nothing to flag up and get banned.
Ebay rep said you are all set and i was happy.
Less than 3 hours later, I get a message saying your account has been permanently banned MC113.
I was extremely angry, totally shocked as i had followed what the ebay reps had told me.
Did a ebay live chat. First rep just fobbed me off, didn’t try to review. Second rep, same thing so i asked for ebay phone number which i called and was a recorded message so change of getting through to a human.
Third rep, looked into my account, asked me what am i selling, I said some Pokémon booster boxes. He checked my account for 2 mins before coming back and saying “I have now reinstated your account”
At this moment, I was a bit emotional as I wanted to make this work and see far i can go.
So now I have got my shop account back even though in the eBay message it said that the decision was final and cannot be appealed
Sorry for the long writting, just wanted to explain to someone my experience.
Tough luck. I can’t wrap my head around why this would happen. I’ve never tried to sell anything more expensive than $120, but I’ve never had any problems. Can you think of why they targeted your store?
Honestly I have no idea. I had paid the shop fee for the month and everything.
The third eBay rep then said:
Me: what triggered this?
Did i do something wrong?
Ebay Rep Remedios:
Not really, we usually do this for new users, to make sure they are a real person. It’s just a protocol that we do for first time sellers, but you’re all good, I have verified your account plus you have a PayPal link on it, so you’re safe now.
Yeah i’m still confused. I heard usually they suspend account and then you have to call em back and confirm stuff to have it reinstated but i didn’t get any of that, a chance to prove i was legitimate. Very strange experience.
What boxes were you selling? I haven’t really been browsing ebay much recently, but when I did it was pretty common to see obvious scams of jungle/fossil boxes. If they’ve cracked down on new accounts selling those expensive boxes since then, maybe that’s why yours was banned? That’s my only guess.
I just received delivery of the new SWSH boxes from Japan. I just thought I’d check with eBay to see how to open a store correctly but got banned within hours of opening it.
Thankfully one eBay rep did ask what i was trying to sell and i told him inc the quantity i had. His next reply was my account was reinstated.
Unless i had multiple wotc boxes, you won’t see me selling those lol love em too much
Unfortunately too common and predictable for a new eBay store. If a new seller on a new account tries to list ‘over the threshold’ (an undisclosed amount dependent on category) the account will be flagged. Very likely the scenario here.
Another likely event will be a 21 day hold on the first handful of sales
As my collection has grown, my tastes have narrowed and I’m wanting to move towards selling. However, it’s everyday that I come across a post pertaining to how terrible eBay is as a selling platform, some idiot blatantly admitting to shill bidding, and people constantly cheating sealed product.
I honestly love this hobby but I’m scared of it. Why should I be scared to grow my collection? I feel like I need to protect myself before some looming problem arises. This isn’t fun
We should all just collectively create a platform ourselves starting here. It would have equal buyer/seller protection. The same good quality protection ebay has for buyers, but beautifully same-sided seller protection that cancels out the ability for buyers to abuse the system.
I would absolutely love to be a part of that. Imagine the Utopian ideal… IMAGINE.
