To summarize, I bought a card listed as NM/pack fresh on ebay. Was also guaranteed by the seller that the holofoil was perfect (which is a whole seperate issue…). Card was authenticated as NM by Ebay and just delivered. It does have holofoil scratching, which isn’t the end of the world, but the bigger issue is that there is a long, deep scratch running from the bottom of the card to the middle of it. Its hard to see in photos but I tried to capture it as best I could, as well as circle it:
I was always under the assumption that ebay verifies the card is authentic vs the condition of the card. It might be worth a dispute if you arent happy with it though.
I’ve had ebay reject cards for condition not being as described, so they do actually take listed condition into account. I also have messages from the seller saying the condition of the holofoil was perfect.
I’ve sent a message to the seller stating what condition the card is in, without asking for any type of return or refund. We’ll see what they have to say.
They do not. I believe once it goes through authentication, eBay stands behind the purchase of the item. At that point it’s between you and the seller.
Sadly, you are SOL. There is no returning a card for condition “not as described” when going through eBay authentication, nor will eBay side with you in any claims against the seller. I think back when CGC was doing authentication they would take a look at the condition of the Card versus what was stated, but I doubt PSA is doing that now.
Damn. This card was authenticated by CGC, since it went to Florida for authentication. I guess its not the end of the world, since the card is still probably an 8, maybe a 7 even with the scratch. Just really frustrating.
If the card is in 7 (NM) or 8 (NM-MT) condition and they listed it as NM, then there is nothing to dispute. The seller could have been more upfront with all of the damage, but they technically sold you a NM card.
If there’s a scratch on the text part and not just the holo scratching, I don’t know that pack fresh is an appropriate description. That said, near mint could be anything graded a 7 or better, so some light wear should be anticipated. Shame about the post authentication wear though
