I sold a PSA 9 First Edition holo,it has some holo scratches which is why it has the grade it does. I got a message from the buyer who started the return process. They copy and pasted the grading description from PSA’s website and put it into the return details, and said that it doesn’t meet that. They also mention scratches on the actual case itself.
What do I do, just accept the return and block the person? I mean, this is why we have PSA to determine an unbiased condition of the card…
Also, they stated that since the listing states the description as “New” that is another reason for return.
Seems to me like they wanted to crack this card and resubmit for a higher grade.
That really won’t make a difference. If the buyer claims the item is not as described they can open a case anyway. The easiest route is to accept the full return and block as rattle mentioned.
Even still, selecting that is more of a deterrent. As PFM said, if buyers claim item not as described, they’ll pretty much always win the case for a return.
As mentioned by teraz, it’s only a deterrent. The ebay money back guarantee overrides any return policy - as it should. If you don’t get the item you purchased, you should have the ability to force the return. The negative consequence is that ebay ends up enabling buyers like the one in this thread.
Is the buyer wrong if the description said “new” but both the card and the case were damaged? (In what way would it be correct to describe it as “new?”)
The card has been graded by PSA and given a specific grade, any damage to the card that the buyer thinks is excessive can be taken up with PSA. Damage to the case that was not noted in the description or shown clearly in the photographs would be a valid reason for a return.
Is it better to describe a card as ‘used’ even if graded mint 9 to avoid the hassle of a buyer claiming otherwise? As long as you have clear pictures and everyone can see it’s a PSA 9 card surely it wouldn’t matter too much, or do people often filter eBay for ‘new’ items when searching PSA graded cards to buy?
dont list items as new even if they are. and if the situation is that the buyer did not like the condition of the card from a personal perspective and your description is accurate, they should be paying for return shipping, you accept it upon inspection and issue a refund. relist and someone else may not (most probably) wont be as picky.
Listing it as new just puts you in the position to pay for return shipping. play the game, dont let it happen again
I have never once filtered new/used when searching for graded cards. New and used doesn’t really apply straightforward to graded cards. Also, it sounds like that guy was going to return the card regardless of whether or not the card was listed as new.
This exact situation happened to me last month and I never ended up getting my card back. Make sure you contact the buyer and give them the return info because in my case the buyer sent my card to an incorrect address and I never saw it again. It was most likely a scam from the start and eBay was unable to help despite the return tracking never making it to my address. Keep us updated with how it goes.
