So I sold 3 pokemon cards to an ebayer and he didn’t receive them and he’s rightly so opened a case in the resolution centre for ‘i haven’t received my item’. I’m perfectly happy to give him a refund, but whilst i click refund on ebay itself, it says:
"There was a problem sending your refund to the buyer
To try again or to see what’s wrong, go to PayPal."
So i went to paypal, and they had already deducted my balance, to take the refund amount and asked me to top the balance up. So I did just that and now it says the money is in holding. Jesus…so I went back to ebay to try again and it still gives me errors.
So I rang ebay and they recommended to try topping up your balance. At this point I had to get off the phone because i was unable to top up my paypal balance due to having to set up a full on payee. So I logged into my banking app and set up paypal as a payee.
You can guess what happens next.
The new payee failed and I couldn’t add money to my account through the app as there was an error. The error appeared when the app immediately recognises paypal and then it glitches and freezes and you can’t click anything.
So i figured i’ll go to the desktop website on my pc, this would surely work then right?
Wrong.
It errored on the website itself and said it failed for no reason whatsoever, try re-entering the details which I tripled checked and it was correct.
So now i turned to google and searched “how to add money to paypal account” AND YOU WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT, PAYPAL’S WEBPAGE IS BROKEN:
So now as it stands, i’m trying to refund the buyer before the 26th case date and i’m unable to. I managed to finally top up money to my account on paypal through barclays online banking today, the error seems to have gone now.
I just contacted paypal as as even with a paypal balance with money in it, i still can’t issue the refund. They’ve just advised me to go back to ebay and try and get them to resolve the case because if they handle it on their end, they have to close the case and reopen it and it would take weeks apparently.
Thank you! I’m the phone to ebay again now, i’m keeping the ebayer in the know about what’s happened, hopefully he’ll give up on his paultry refund of £2.67 lol
Thanks for understanding! I just called ebay and they told me to try adding money to my paypal account which I did.
I then called paypal as it still errored and they said to go back to ebay to resolve the case as their resolution would be closing your case and it apparently would take weeks to sort it out on their end.
I just got off the phone from ebay again and they’ve told me alot of people have experienced this glitch. They’ve given us a few options:
1: They can close the case in your favour and then you can respond to it and ebay steps in. This results in me getting a defect on my account.
I send you the amount you paid, £2.97 was it? directly through paypal and then you manually close the case yourself.
If you’re alright with the second option, I would much prefer this as the first option results in a defect on my account for not issuing the refund (even though ebay have admitted it’s their fault) which I would have to appeal to get it removed.
He sounds like a good guy, i’ve been talking to him throughout the process but it sounds like it’s a glitch on ebays end. I hope he goes for the second option as it will result in a defect on my account which i have to manually appeal for to get it removed. Somehow I get the worst end of the stick and then punished by ebay when it’s their fault.
Yea = S At least when i sent him the first message saying the website errored, he was really understanding about it. If I was him, the non di## thing to do would be to sort it out personally through paypal off of ebay. If he goes for option 1, that speaks volumes, would basically be syaing “i don’t care if you get an account defect flag, even though it’s not your fault”
I Think what happened is you did not have the funds in your account for the refund? If that happens paypal will force an Echeck out of your bank account and if I remember right that can take a week to clear. It is really an annoying, poorly made system. Paypal has the ability to take money instantly from your bank or CC regularly, but for returns they like to drag out the process and in turn makes the seller look bad.
Yea it did this at first, but I have topped it up since then and it’s still broken, i’ve contacted paypal about this and ebay and they’ve both agreed it’s a glitch in the system. I have paid £2.65 and paypal is “holding” it and not giving it to the buyer.
The problem has arisen finally, the ebayer got a letter in the post saying the postage was sufficiently paid which is odd, but i’m just glad it got to him. I’m sending him the difference via paypal outside of ebay and then he’s going to close the case. No need to blacklist here (unless he doesn’t close the case after I refund him).
You might be concerned about me doing this manually but it’s even what ebay has advised me to do at this point. If he pretends he hasn’t received the money from me, I can appeal it as theyve left a note on my account at their end.
