Ebay seller not responding for weeks

I have potential issue at ebay and I’d like to ask some opinions before taking further actions. I don’t want to share seller id yet but they have 200+ feedback score, almost 100% positive feedback and over 500 items listed currently. Events of sale so far:

On December 16th I bought single card, instantly paid it and messaged seller I’m looking forward to see update once it has been shipped. Listing details also mention seller usually ships within 2 business days.

4 days later, December 20th nothing hadn’t changed on order page so I had to send another message where I requested seller to take care of shipping.

Today has been exactly 2 weeks since purchase and the situation remains the same, absolute radio silence by seller. I’m a bit worried because other orders made before and after this one are already flowing in as planned. Here’s what I currently think.

  1. seller has no intention to ship this card, I can’t think of any good reason for this especially when we haven’t done any deals before

  2. maybe seller is taking extra long Christmas holiday or something bad has happened irl which prevents sale happening and I should take my money back instantly

Been thinking of giving deadline till next friday January 5th, if nothing changes I’ll simply begin refund process on January 6th. Is this reasonable approach in your opinion?

The last option sounds reasonable. Sometimes things do happen, and that may be the case. I’ve had sellers literally disappear. Some that I’d dealt with under excellent terms and care for years. Life happens, and it’s unfortunate when it ruins someone’s reputation or relationships, but it’s not always malicious, and you just have to go through the formal channels. So, I think that Jan 5 deadline is perfectly fine, and that you should not hold it against them.

Any feedback indicating other buyers with problems lately?

Overall the feedback is great, I see only one negative about order not received and few positive feedbacks mention about slow delivery but that’s all. Checked them before purchase as usual.

Only couple items have sold after my purchase, if other users receive same treatment as I it could be recipe of disaster to seller with forced refunds and possible negative feedbacks. This kind of behavior is totally new to me, I’ve had my share of difficulties on ebay but every time those sellers have responded in timely manner.

Agreed with @xileets. I would wait until after the holiday season to see what’s going on. People are predictably unpredictable during this time of the year.

If the seller still has not said a thing by then, you may want to recoup your money through eBay and report the seller for non-selling.

Follow up to this story: I just checked my email and it was no surprise I didn’t find any order updates or messages regarding this purchase. In normal circumstances one extra week should be more than enough for seller to do their part.

Could someone give me advice what is the correct pathway on ebay to begin refund process? First time I have to do something like this, been on ebay since 2013 and maybe one time I’ve received partial refund ( and many cases where seller gives back unnecessary amount from shipping charges ).

Sorry you’re going through this. I think this is a cut-and-dry “Item not received” case. Since no shipping information has been uploaded, you can go to your purchase history, go to the item, and choose “I didn’t receive it.” Even if the seller is completely ghosting you, after three business days, you can ask Ebay to step in (I think you have to actively do this), and they should process a refund for you.

Here’s a link to what Ebay recommends for items not received.

I just had a seller ghost recently, it’s a very easy process when they don’t ship and don’t respond!

Thanks for the tip, however when I do this I get following message and I’m unable to do other actions:

"Your item may still be on its way

The estimated delivery date for this item is Jan 7. If you haven’t received your item by then, go back to the item you purchased and open a request."

Looks like I’ll take another try on Monday because during weekends no post is delivered in mailboxes/post offices here.

I forgot to add I absolutely hate calling out other people but in this case it must be done so other people can save their money and time. Name of the seller is jorib-2633.

Just noticed another user has left negative with following words.

" 10 week waiting and no Item, or response or refund, will not buy again "

Ah yeah, you have to wait until the estimated date of delivery has been reached or passed before you can file an “item not received” case. I just figured that date would’ve been far gone due to the purchase being so long ago. You can just start the process asap on the 7th if you want. Even if the post isn’t being delivered that day, you’ve waited long enough, and it seems like the seller isn’t going to ship the card for whatever reason.

Conclusion with this issue: on January 8th I opened “item not received” case, I tried to do this in the morning but the earliest moment ebay allowed it was after 10 am, timezone problem as usual.

No reply by seller for case and today I was able to ask further help from customer service, less than 2 hours after that the case was decided in my favour with full refund, there was a mention at ebay it will take 3-5 business days before money shows at bank account but this is totally fine by me.

I’d like to be angry over this but maybe it´s just better to move on since I’ll probably never know what is actual situation with the seller. Hopefully this will be the last time I have to leave negative feedback to anyone, took really long before things got this bad at any marketplace.

It’s best to move on instead of thinking about why the seller ghosted you.
3 things could have happened, nothing you can do to help:

  • seller intentionally ignored you because they sold card for too low of price
  • seller is so disorganized, doesn’t get notifications from eBay app, doesn’t check emails or eBay seller page
  • seller is no longer with us
