efour transaction - Europe to US

Another user and I are contemplating me (in the US) buying a card from him (in Europe). Neither of us have experience with an efour transaction of this type. Due to the high value of the card, he would like to ship it with insurance. FedEx told him that it would be like $400 for shipping plus a 20-25% tax. Neither of us know what this tax is.

Can someone ELI5? Thanks!

I suggest to with hold any shipments from and to the US. I’ve send out a parcel 2,5 weeks ago to the US and it still has not been logged into their customs. This all due to the corona virus. Only way to “by pass” is to use FedEx/UPS and that comes with higher fees.

Personally, with the Dutch Postal, I can do shipments insured up to €500 for just under €25 (tracked letter) or just under €35 (tracked parcel), excluding extra “corona fee”. And €45 with insurance up to €5.500

I have no experience with FedEx and/or UPS, but I think their estimate is on point. 90% of the costs are in the insurance.

It took 6 weeks for my items to arrive/delivered from Europe (Netherlands) to an USA adress. Normally it takes 7-10 days.
Shipping with Fedex if they charge 400 Euro, it’s an item worth over 20000 Euro. At least that’s what they would have charged me at the start of this year for shipping an item with 22K value. I ended up buying a ticket and delivering it myself. But that’s no option now.
