I recently lost a large amount of money for me on a purchase. Over $1,500 and I am just so unbelievably bummed about it. Basically long story short, but what I bought wasn’t real and there’s no way for me to get my money back. Basically just looking to see if anyone has ever lost money on a big purchase whether the card/item was fake or if you or someone damaged it etc. Kind of just looking to hear I’m not the only one this has happened to haha.
I didnt kill myself so the answer is no, max 100-200 usd in lost packages. But I almost lost a 3k card once and I had a panic attack
I’m sorry you were taken advantage of! Not a good feeling at all. I would explore every option you can and leave no stone unturned.
Not a purchase, but two years ago in a trade I was scammed out of a PSA 10 1st Edition shadowless Poliwrath, and a PSA 9 1st Edition shadowless Magneton, and a raw NM/M 1st Edition shadowless Hitmonlee that would’ve very likely graded a 9 or 10.
All I ever received was some Flashfire bulk. This REALLY bummed me out, and I stopped collecting for awhile because of it.
Jeez thats a rough one that total would be higher than mine lost.
@ldubbs Being scammed is my ultimate fear and which is why even tho eBay has money back garentee I still hardly buy off eBay. What card was it? Or what happened I want to hear more I know it’s probably painful to talk about. My only loss was my two PayPal friends and family orders off Facebook marketplace when I first rejoined. Or i consider most of the packs I opened as being a bad purchase because i spent like 2-3k opening modern collection boxes and packs. I didn’t know how cheap singles were and wasn’t on the right path yet. It was fun but if I could do it again I’d buy singles starting with Wotc cards
Truly sorry to hear about that. If you’re comfortable sharing your story, someone in this forum might be able to help you.
@rattledkarp Where was the purchase from? And there was no possible way of getting money back when it happened?
I haven’t been successfully scammed ever, always protect yourself, don’t trust nobodies and if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
It was a trade sadly. It’s too bad because the guy was a decently respected individual in the Facebook group. He scammed quite a few people at once. I just like to tell myself that he was in a bad spot and really needed something he could convert to cash…
Still got pictures of MY beauties, even if they’re not in my possession. Although they were probably cracked out long ago.
There‘s a story about a $60k card that got lost during shipping.
I can’t think of any moment when I would’ve lost money because seller decided to run with the money. Most of the bigger transactions have been made on E4 and still having great run on ebay as seller/buyer.
I don’t even have accounts on social media so that’s probably why I’ve managed to avoid all Facebook/Instagram crap people are complaining about.
Not really a monetary loss but my PSA 8 players Mew was a PSA 9 I cracked and resubbed
I don’t know if I would call it a loss, but buying a 1000€ card and it got taxed 350€ when it arrived sure felt like a big loss.
Got some resealed boosters, couldn´t get my money back - paying import duties also feels like taking a loss as pokemonunboxing already mentioned (even though it isn´t of course, you should expect it). I once bought a wotc 1st ed booster box of a reputable member here which got opened by customs, that also sucked. In the end, you learn from mistakes though, don´t let it get to you!
@shadowless wow opened by customs that’s the first I’ve heard of that. Sorry to hear that. Is this somewhat common?
It’s not common, but it happens from time to time.
@mcorey777 I´m located in Germany, customs here is obnoxiously curios whats inside sealed things. If they happen to have a bad day, they will rip it open. It´s not massively common but I´ve heard of dozens of cases here in Germany where boxes/sealed product got opened during customs inspection.
Anyone know how the loss was distributed on this one?
Back in 2016 i bought an UNL Gym Challenge box, they were fairly cheap at that time, the customs of my country ripped the seal to see the content. I was planning on keeping it sealed but ended up opening the packs on 2016’s christmas due to that.
I was really sad when i saw the removed the seal, and put it into the box. All packs were clean and at least had a great time opening them.
