TL;DR: Guy offers me a card for €250 shipped, then asks for €35 for express shipping, then asks for €170 more for the card, then refunds all of it and says “I’m gonna need more effort.” because his “VIP friend” said I was lowballing him.
Copying some of this text from Facebook because I left the guy a scathing feedback there.
Guy has a no-texture Guzma Full Art Trainer, offered it to me for €250 Goods and S after I offered $150 USD initially, which I sent payment for. Then:
He asks for €35 more (FnF) to cover express shipping so the payment would clear quicker. I send it to him because fine, why not.
He later messages again asking for more comps, I send him what I can find and he says the price isn’t fair and he’d need €120 more. I agree after much back and forth and he sends me an invoice for €170 GnS, which he said was because of calculation errors.
He says this price is FINAL, “100% fixed”. That there is no discussion and we will 100% close the deal.
He sends me a screenshot that his friend says I am lowballing and he can get more. He tells me he “needs more effort for it mate”.
He refunded me the initial €420 I’ve paid then asked me if I want to make him “an unrefusable offer”.
I told him I won’t do that and asked where my €35 for the extra shipping was and that I refuse to do business with him ever again (hence no more offers… duh) and then he blocked me for being rude. I feel like at this point being rude was justified, as it was when he literally asked me for more money after agreeing on a price and then taking more money from me, but whatever. He says the €35 was an e-check (how? I sent from my balance) and that he will refund later but now he’s blocked me soooo… okay.
He has since unblocked me, refunded the €35 (and told me he was upset I couldn’t wait a day so he “incurred extra fees to refund”.
Has messaged me twice offering to sell the card for €420, and then another reduced price. He said “I’m being nice, you were willing to pay €420 just yesterday!” I’ve also gotten screenshots from other people on Facebook where he solicits offers saying he “turned down a €400 offer”. Yikes?
He now says he’ll grade the card then auction it. Bye bye, Guzma of my dreams!
#endrant. Just a warning for anyone who might be solicited by the guy. It’s a great card and I will say it’s a great shame it ended up with a greedy extortionist.
That sucks, happens a lot when sellers have no clue what they are doing or what they have. Sounds like he knows he messed up though, I wouldn’t give up on the card just yet, Good luck!
I would have lost my mind! It’s a $15-$20 card before the error how much is this “error” really worth. You offered more then enough in my eyes. I’ve also heard this lack of texture is a somewhat common error. Use that same money on something “Older, Rarer, Minter, Better”
It’s really not a common error. I’ve been looking for a Guzma, Acerola, or Lusamine (either) from the Sun & Moon era for a few years to no avail. This is the only one I’ve ever seen come up, and I’d presume there might only be a couple of others. Either way, it’s really hard to hunt them down.
I actually have a Lusamine with no texture that I’ve always thought was fake because of this. It’s stashed away in a box somewhere. If I find it I can send you some pics.
If they’re in the US, this shit would have me on some petty law suit vibes for breach of contract. Generic filing is only a few hundred dollars and assholes in the hobby need the fear of God ASAP.
My question is what constitutes a contract suitable for a lawsuit?
last year I was in talks with the YouTuber to buy their collection it was valued over six figures. Things have worked out since my favorite, but missing certain PSA 10 cards or impressive raw collections/complete sets that come through always hurt. it’s one thing that people break their word cuz they can’t afford it in life changes, but when sellers do things like this or break the contract cuz they can get more money afterwards still leaves a better taste in the mouth.
On the bright side there were several folks from Instagram who had deals with collectors that had gone missing for 6 months to a year. they came back and honored the deal even though the cards or and complete sets had gone up 3 to 5 times in value. I’m not sure if it’s just highlights an issue that was already there or increasing the issue because of the massive increase in value we’ve seen.
