This sucks. Nobody can do anything cos it was in person. These people should get a stint in the slammer for effectively stealing thousands. Worst part is even if you catch them out and get ur money back, all that happens is they buy another empty box and try screw someone else.

Id never buy one without cracking it on the spot which shoots the value anyway.

I recognized that box as a fake when i saw the listing, the wrap was sloppy and i recall gracepokemon being involved in these fake 1st edition base boxes previously

I wonder if you can pursue criminal charges agaisnt them. You’re trying to cheat someone out a lot of money I’m pretty sure that’s a big crime.

Since it happened right at the crossing line of Irvine county jurisdiction we are heading towards OC Sheriff Department office.

Was the box opened? What was inside? Was it similar to the last one that had resealed packs with unlimited or cheap 1st edition cards in it?

It has not been opened but many striking similarities with the last one sold including the wrapping, since contacting seller he has taken down his Facebook and have been trying to contact family members, waiting for sheriff at the moment

God dammit what a piece of shit. I was talking to this person and very close to striking a deal on a box. Supposedly they had 3 of them 100% legit. Had made previous sales with positive feedback which we know now is bunk. I went back and forth with about 10-15 messages and we were only $500 or so from making a deal. Glad I stayed where I was, but surprised they wouldn’t “settle”, probably were hesitant as I mentioned 100% multiple times over that my intent was to open and grade the holos. Again. I could never never never buy one of these as a sealed investment. I would have to open it. Too scary. Probably should just spend $8000 or so buying every other box I need and realize this one is never gonna happen. Good luck to all involved and hopefully something criminal can stick against this scumbag.

I feel 1st edition sealed base set boxes have lost all appeal. unless you get your box from gary, you need to open it to make sure its legit

Yeah, if it keeps going like this, people are going to be far less likely to risk such large amounts on them.

Hopefully that means I can get one for a reasonable price some day… But yeah if I was sitting on a few as an investment, I am not sure what I would do. Maybe call up PSA and see if they want to start certifying and “slabbing” boxes… :tada:

Gary you should make an eBay listing with pictures of what a real box is and what to look for. A single 1st Ed Booster box listing for $15k. That’ll definitely help spread awareness.

Posted about this scumbag before. Great idea hisoka!

Any money that if Gary did do that then it would only be a matter of time before the scammers just started using the photos for his listing on theirs.

put a big water mark on it.

Problem solved with that to be fair.
