Fake Base Set 2 Booster

Hello everyone,

I’m new here, so sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong place.

A few days ago, I bought a Base Set 2 booster on eBay, and now that it has arrived, I’ve noticed a few things that make me suspect it might be fake:

1.) The print quality of “Trading Card Game” on the front

2.) The crimp at the bottom is horizontal (I haven’t seen this on any other booster)

3.) The grading says “German,” but it’s in English

What do you think? Thanks!

I can’t comment on the crimps or whether it’s fake or not (although it looks fine at quick glance) but for #1, the print quality of the text on wotc boosters is almost always pretty awful and #3…well that’s some basement company it looks like so I wouldn’t be surprised that they got the label wrong lol

I enjoy the 3 zeroes in the beginning of the cert. This company won’t be needing any of those digits if they slab packs slanted like this

Thanks for the feedback. You are right, the basement grading company is already closed if I got it right

Mainly the crimp is bothering me tbh

All WOTC hanger/long packs had horizontal crimps on the bottom. See some examples here:

This pack looks fine to me in terms of authenticity. Can’t tell if its resealed or not from the photos, but thats something that can really only be determined with an in person inspection.

Haha yeah exactly

Now that the thread got bumped, let me provide some context: EGS was the very first German grading company, before Grading even really was a thing here (they started back in 2011 first focused on Comics, but also graded Trading Cards). Around 2018-2019 they started getting more popular as the only option to grade your cards for Germans without sending them to the US (middleman services for PSA were to my knowledge non-existant back then, so you had to deal with customs and everything yourself). So in theory they had the perfect recipe to become a European leader in card grading when the 2021 bubble hit, but in contrast to all the other new German grading companies that popped up EGS seemed to have invested basically no ressources into upgrading their website, improving their grading or marketing and thus quickly fell off as they weren’t the only option in Germany anymore. Also regarding the 3 zeros being very optimistic you’re right, the highest cert numbers I see from shortly before they stopped grading in 2022 were only just approaching the 23000 mark. So they aren’t just a random new basement grading company, but actually have some interesting history. But as you see with the mislabel they weren’t that good for Trading Cards and missed their chance to improve their TCG Grading and becoming a major player and instead now don’t exist anymore.
