My partner and Step daughter just got in from meeting a friend and their children. They said their children are massively in to collecting pokemon and kindly gave Bella some cards look: Proceeded to hand over like 15 GX cards, I said wow that was nice these are rare/valuable, Soon as I touched them, what the hell these are fake (all slimey) She said yer they know that, at school they are a lot cheaper but are basically the same thing.
Cant believe it, they are age 9-11 and are collecting fake cards. From a distance they looked right but almost too good of condition, up close they just look like thin laminated pieces of paper.
Ill take some pictures if I can get hold of them, I said I dont agree with this but dont want to ruin it for them.
It sucks how eBay and Amazon are pushing these 300GX cards for 30$-listings non-stop. When you’re a casual parent searching “pokemon cards”, maybe “gx” cause you know the term by now, the first things you see are the cheap China listings. I often heard that “well, fake cards always existed and they didn’t harm us in the long term”. True, a good chunk of WotC collections I see contain fakes (like these prism-jungle holos, ew), but I would argue that it’s much more wide spread nowadays through everyone using the internet, as opposed to back then. eBay doesn’t care about stores that only sell counterfeit product, reports don’t do shit as long as the stuff sells, so I guess the only way to stop it would be if Pokemon started caring.
Its like seeing all the Fake ray ban stalls and Nike trainers at carboot sales, its really effected the ability to re sell those items legitimately as fakes have affected the market. I really hate fakes and have issues with anyone happy to sell them, even when saying they are fake
I was just showing a fake card in my latest Aquapolis video. My buddy Cool Trainer Tony noticed my Luxray Level X seemed really off and it’s because it’s fake. I got it off mercari. Opening a claim currently. I hate proxy listings custom cards and every other version of fake cards. It’s getting to a real low. Someone sold me the fake for $13.
I never found a fake card when I collected 1999-2003 ish, As a kid no way would I want something Fake, our schools would have laughed at you for knowingly having fake stuff. Just my experience.
Counterfeit goods have massive repercussions on businesses, at no point should it be seen as okay.
I remember back when pokemon first came out my parents purchased some cards for me and they were fake. I think I still have them, I’ll post them next time I can get my hands on them.
Interesting. I wonder how you define “fake card”—would you “throw away” a beautiful drawing simply because it’s the size and shape of a card?
Hey guys. So recently I bought a fake card off mercari. I didn’t notice it was fake right away. I added it to my collection too quickly on a big mail day. Just so you guys know mercari is refusing to open a return even tho it’s with in two weeks. Beware buying off Mercari! Horrible site and customer service. I asked for a manager so I will see if I can fight this into being resolved. Seller is Kenzie’s Closet
Not sure why i’m replying to this but a fake card is: not genuine, an imitation, a counterfeit, a forgery of another product. Sure draw a smiley face on a plain piece of card the same size as a playing card and sell it as a donkeymon card, see how well that does without stealing someone elses branding.
This Thread is referring to Fake Pokemon Cards. You arn’t Nintendo, but you’ve manufatured a product, and selling it as a pokemon card, It is a counterfeit.
It seems you didn’t respond to my question about the drawing (you’d throw it away? why?)
It also seems your definition is either inadequate or does not apply to the examples I posted. (Unless I’m missing something, they’re not “imitating” or “forgeries” of cards: They don’t and aren’t meant to look like them; they’re meant to be creative extrapolations from them)
I think you’re either misunderstanding what I’m saying or just trolling. Would I throw away the fake cards you posted pictures of in the thread? Absolutely. Would I throw away the mass produced Chinese proxies? Absolutely. I wouldn’t throw away a “beautiful drawing” if it was the size of a Pokemon card; I sometimes draw stuff that size.
