I just purchased a raw copy of one of these cards and got it today in the mail, realizing it was actually a sticker too. Can someone please tell me if that’s normal? Are these Holo prism type cards supposed to be stickers? See link picture.
Theres different series of carddass cards. the 1997 ones with the original Sugimori art aren’t stickers while the ones in ur link are. The '96 series (yours) just reuses art and turned them into stickers. However, people still collect them a cards. I don;t know if you meant to get that series or the other one but I hoped that helped.
Does $50 sound about right for this card/sticker raw in Near Mint condition? Really appreciate the help. It’s so hard to find any info on this and it’s very confusing.
Yeah they’re pretty underrated. Im not 100% sure but if it’s a gengar in NM-M condition thats a good price in my book. Price comps with early Carddass stuff its pretty tough so a lot of the time it comes down to whether or not you personally think its a good price or not. Do u know the pop report for that card by any chance?
I would say $50 for a raw near mint one of these is a little steep, but not too bad considering you’re buying from outside of Japan.
For example just looking at Mercari now I can see this one for ¥2980 (about $27). But of course you would need to be in Japan to get it for that price.
$27 is good but who knows how many additional charges you’re going to get when buying from japanese sellers. I think $50 is fine as long as the card is in psa 7 and up condition. Remember this is a Gengar and not a metapod or anything like that.
1997 Carddass holos are indeed stickers. The non holos are regular cards.
To the OP, the 96 Carddass Stock art cards that are prism holos are also stickers. And again, the non holos are not.
For both sets, the holos are stickers.
@brendantheclayboy , is totally right! Here is my answer from the other post which I improved on today:
All holo/prism cards are stickers in 1996 carddass parts 1-2 and 1997 carddass parts 3-4. All non-holo/prism cards are NOT stickers in both of those sets.
Now you ask, “so are they cards, or stickers?”. They were intended as a card set, since Carddass was the name of Bandai’s card series and Sealdass was the name of Bandai’s sticker series. Peelability for the Carddass holos was I guess just a feature that kids might think was cool. In the Sealdass sets every card can be peeled. Underneath any of these stickers is just blank/white.
So yeah those aren’t fake but I wouldn’t peel them, unless, well, that’s just what you want on your fridge.
Not that it’s needed anymore but can also confirm that the holos are stickers. When i bought my sets it got me worried the same way than op but luckily plenty of collectors for these to confirm how they are and should be
I unpeeled and restick a few cards with a “drift” and managed to get them looking fresh again. Not saying I endorse this but it can be done, and if done right/carefully, it can fix the look.
