Up until today, I had 100 percent feedback on eBay with 1,063 feedbacks over the last 12 months. Well, today, a buyer left me negative feedback saying that a Dewgong Base Set card I sold him was “fake.” The best part is he wrote, “Bought a Seel card and its a fake. I dont not recommend this seller,” so he didn’t even get the name of the card right (not to mention the double negative, but whatever).
He didn’t open a case. He didn’t ask for a refund. If he really thought the card were fake, he would have obviously done one of those two things, so clearly, he is a liar and I’m not sure what his angle is.
I put in a request with eBay to remove the feedback stating my case.
My question is, does eBay even remove feedbacks like this? Or am I going to be stuck with this one negative because of this one scumbag?
If Ebay removes it, cool. If not then just move on about your daily life. It is inevitable. Literally zero buyers look at a seller’s feedback, see 99.9% positive and say “meh, I’ll go elsewhere”. It’s only when that feedback starts getting to <95% when I start actually reading the feedback before purchasing.
Not sure that’s entirely true if a buyer is claiming seller is selling fake cards. I believe eBay will get rid of it, and I would fight to speak to someone like a manager to have it done as well
This is what is bothering me. It’s one thing to say “I didn’t receive it” or “item was not as described.” This is some moron claiming I sold him a fake card, which is literally libel.
I would definitely try to get it removed, and if not, at least do the reply option to say that the card is absolutely not fake/that buyer did not contact you.
While I do agree that majority of the time, if I see 99.9% positive feedback I would buy from the seller anyways (hey no one’s perfect), I do consider it a red flag if any buyer mentions they received something fake from a seller. This is because from my personal experience, fakes are usually under reported in the ebay feedback system unless it’s high end stuff. I think this is because the more expensive you purchase a collectible from, the higher likelihood you have expertise in the matter to differentiate fakes from authentic. Therefore if I see like 2-3 buyers mention they bought fakes from a seller, even if they had a high rating, I may not purchase items without authentication.
So if you see “seller sold me a fake card,” you wouldn’t be deterred? I’m sure most people would chalk it up to the buyer just being an idiot because I have a spotless record otherwise, but this could potentially deter some more anal buyers.
Can I even reply to the feedback now that I submitted the request, or do I have to wait? I don’t want anything to interfere with the request I made to get it removed.
If I see someone with a single negative and 1k+ positives, I 100% of the time assume the buyer is the asshole/idiot no matter what they say. It might not always be the case, but I think it’s a safe bet lol.
In this scenario, no. A seller with like 100 feedback and he sold a ‘fake seel’? I chalk up a large chunk of all negative feedback to stupid buyers. Obviously if the negative feedback starts adding up, it’s no longer just ‘stupid buyers’. If I do come across a seller with a little bit of worrying feedback, I will look into the feedback to see what it is. I can tell what is and isn’t fake on a listing so even IF a seller accidentally sold 1 fake card, I’ll know whatever card I’m looking at isn’t.
For other less experienced buyers like many on reddit who cant tell an obvious fake from a real card, it might be. I believe you can leave a message or something as the seller on the feedback if it isn’t removed saying “Card was real, wasn’t even a seal but rather dewgong, buyer didn’t try contacting at all about issues.” Just call them out and it will help make their feedback look even less legitimate.
I want to do this. I’m just not sure if it will interfere with the request I submitted to get the feedback removed. I’m don’t think it would but I’m not sure.
I think krill made a good way to make that feedback not legit and it’s to call the buyer out. If I see that feedback and you responded as krill said, I would absolutely disregard the feedback.
Easy removal - if the buy leaves negative but states the wrong item in the feedback just call eBay and tell them the buyer left the review for the wrong item. BAM removed. I had this exact scenario this week. Now getting ahold of eBay on the phone a talking to someone that speaks plain English is a different story.
Sorry to hear this happened man, I have also been in this exact same scenario and eBay refused to remove the feedback for me as well.
If you can be bothered, you can try to get hold of somebody at eBay on the phone and pester them into removing it.
If not, just reply to the feedback. As a buyer it wouldn’t bother me seeing just one negative comment if I can see the seller also replied. Keep selling and that negative feedback will soon fade into the distance.
That feedback is accusing you of an illegal act. Without proof, you are being accused of selling counterfeit goods.
Ebay must remove it. Don’t give up. Threaten a lawsuit.
All I can tell you is that feedback would not stay on my account.
