Flash-Back to 2009 / 2010 - This Hurts...

My mom is in the process of creating a scrapbook with all of our family pictures from over the years. A few days ago, she asked me if I could try and recover all the pictures from our old computer - which has been sitting in the basement collecting dust for YEARS! To my surprise, the computer actually started right-up - mind you, this thing is running Windows X.P.! LOL

I was able to transfer all of our digital pictures onto a flash-drive and onto her computer. As we started looking through the pictures, I stumbled upon HUNDREDS of pictures from when I used to sell on eBay back in high-school - 2009 / 2010. While the majority of this stuff was in-fact for re-sale (wasn’t the avid collector back then - more into the business side of things); it really brought back A LOT of memories - man do I wish I had a time-machine… Haha

Anyway, I won’t bore you with everything, but here are a few of my personal favorites:

HUGE STACK of Burger King 9-Card Sheets: Sure, these still don’t hold much value today; however, you really couldn’t give these sheets away back when I first started-out on eBay - nobody wanted these!

Japanese Base Set Booster Box: I actually purchased two Japanese Base Set Booster Boxes (both opened) from the person who just ran a bunch of PSA 9 Shadowless Holo Auctions (triumphtrsix). I used to do a lot of business with him!

PSA 10 1st Ed. Base Set Venusaur 15/102: I vividly remember purchasing this card off eBay Auction for somewhere around $500.00 - $600.00 - that was a good price (even back then); not a crazy deal or anything though. I forget how / when I actually re-sold this card.

PSA 9 1st Ed. and Shadowless Base Set Charizard 4/102: I was actually attempting to build a 1st Ed. and Shadowless PSA 9 Holo Set at one point; however, like I said, I wasn’t an avid collector back then - eventually sold-off on eBay for something ā€œbetterā€.

SHIT TON of 1st Ed. Base Set Non-Holo Cards: If you look closely, you’ll notice all of those cards are 1st Ed. Base Set! I really don’t remember owning all those 1st Ed. Base Set Cards! LOL Legit, I had completely forgotten about those! I know that I used to purchase a few 1st Ed. C. / Un. Sets from ebirdman every once in awhile - he’d have the set of 70 E. / C. / Un. Cards listed for around $80.00 BIN.

eBay Sale I 100% Regret to this Day: This is one eBay Sale that I’ve never forgotten - and the one sale that I have always regretted! Just in-case you didn’t realize, those are all Shadowless Base Set C. / Un. Cards (NM/M and MINT Condition) placed inside 100 Ct. Plastic Card Boxes - majority of the E. / C. Boxes were FULL! I’ve always loved the Shadowless Base Set - even more than the 1st Ed. I would hoard all of the Shadowless R. / Un. / C. / E. Cards (only those in NM/M and MINT Condition) that I picked-up through purchases.

I forget how many cards were there - it was A LOT!!! When I stopped selling on eBay (when I started college), I thought I was going to be done with Pokemon forever - so everything was sold-off. I sold this collection as one lot on eBay Auction for DIRT-CHEAP!

Some of the Rare Cards to go along with the above. I could have sworn I also had A LOT more Rare Cards though…

I can relate to this. Me and my girlfriend bought some booster boxes occasionally during 09-11 just for fun and I regret not getting more invested into collecting back then, because some cards would’ve been much cheaper than now.

On the other hand I think that the hobby somehow grew up with its community. Look, I’m 27 now, Pokemon started when I was about 8-10 years old. As an 8 year old you aren’t interested in keeping the cards in perfect condition and don’t care about 1st Edition, shadowless etc., therefore there didn’t remain any of these in my possession over the years. When I got older I grew out of Pokemon as a hobby, sold many of my cards and had other, more ā€œmatureā€ interests. When I rediscovered Pokemon in my young adulthood I hadn’t the funds and patience to seriously start collecting, just did it for fun and on occasion. Now I’m grown up (hah!) and have financial stability/disposable income, I can get more invested and so do others.

Of course not everyone is the same and not every Pokemon collector was born in 1990, but I do think I belong to quite a big part of the community demographic wise and many of the recent collectors may have made similar experiences.

Do you know the prices for bulk c/u shadowless base and team rocket please?

Also…ouch dude… I feel for you! and ive never owned those cards aha

I feel your pain, OP. As a new collector, I just wish I could rewind back 1 year… even 6 months.
