Found my old Pokemon cards, are they worth anything?

Hello!

Basically the thread speaks for itself!

I was clearing out my mother’s house and I happened to come across a load of my old Pokemon cards. I used to be really into them back in the day, however I thought I’d gotten rid of them all, apparently not!

I’ve found a couple of things online that mention some of my cards could be valuable, but I’ve hit a dead end searching with them all and fallen into a sort of rabbit hole haha!

I’ve also heard of PSA ratings too? If any cards were to be valuable, how would I go about getting them PSA rated in the UK?

I’ve included the pictures of everything I have down below, if any of you know anything I’d be most grateful thank you🙏

What cards do you have? I only see a binder.

Sorry, I had a few issues putting them up!

They should be there now

Nice collection.

TLDR: Anything that SHINES is something of value. If you want to grade your collection you can contact Ludkins.

Also welcome to e4

Thank you

I’m only really interested in sending them off to be graded if there’s a significant value to them.

If anything I’d rather keep them and hold onto them for my kids, but I could always use any spare funds for a new guitar :joy:

Nice collection you’ve refound! Some valuable things in there for sure!! As someone who also rediscovered my two southern islands sets this year the artwork is so nice! Welcome mate

One hundred million dollars.

Value on these things is really dependent on condition. If all those cards were preserved in mint condition and professionally graded accordingly, you’re probably looking at a couple thousand dollars. Of course you’d have to pay grading fees and depending on the company you selected wait anywhere from 1-2 to 8-10 months to get them back.

Just from what I can see it doesn’t look like the top condition level is present, although there may be a few mint cards in there. Generally any old English holos are worth grading (in terms of monetary gain) if they’re near mint or better, so that’ll be where the most valuable cards are.

Long story short, that’s a super sweet collection with some awesome cards, but there’s nothing super crazy in there and condition will likely hold you back from a big payday. If I were you, I’d just hold on to them as keepsake but maybe get some better protection than just plastic binder sleeves!

Heres the honest truth you’re looking for:

No Charizards…
No First Editions…
No PSA grades…

= no jackpot.

If these are random childhood cards that you ‘just stumbled upon’, the holos are most likely scratched to heck so ‘surface’ alone is going to drop these to PSA 7-8 level, the edges probably have silvering and whitening which will drop them to 6-7 level. So again, likely no jackpot unless you were OCD as a young collector.

Haha speaking the truth thank you!

Any worth sending off to be PSA graded at all in your opinion?

Appreciate that thank you!

There’s a few cards in there that are literally untouched, but overall agreed that condition isn’t amazing!

Are there any that might be worth looking into getting graded at all?

Updated my original post. Depends how OCD you were when you got them. If a raw card is selling for $100, but a PSA 7 sells for $150… is it worth it to drop 15-30 grading it? Not really…

you’ll have to examine every card ‘honestly’ for even a single scratch on a holo, or a white nick on the back edge, or silvering on the front edges… most people over estimate their cards grade out of novice.

Haha yeah I can appreciate that!

There’s a few that have some scratches, but generally overall I would actually say the condition is good. My grandad used to buy them and make me hold onto them and wouldn’t really let me play with them.

That’s great thank you.

The trouble i’ve had is finding a general value for cards. I’ve seen some of my cards go for big money and some for next to nothing, that’s why I’ve come to you all for help and guidance :man_bowing:

I’m seeing what appear to be at least a couple bootleg cards in there so be careful. The machamp and raichu (offcenter one on image 10) for sure. Would need to see the holo pattern/backs on the rest to see if any others. Its best to purge those to avoid issues with buyers going forward.

In terms of what I’ve found online, it seems like both of the Machamp’s and the Venusaur I have would gather the most interest if in good condition.

It seems that prices fluctuate between 300-1500 dollars, is that a fair valuation?

I’d say that the pictures I’ve shows below would say relatively good condition, maybe an 8, what do you think?

I’d suggest looking up recent ebay sold listings for each of your cards, especially Holos. This will give you an idea of the value of each card. You can then decide which are worth grading, which you may want to sell as a collection to save effort, and which to sell individually.

This is another question I was going to ask about bootlegs for sure, thanks for picking up on that for me

Which machamp would you consider to be a bootleg?

the second sparkly one in your last post.
