I’m looking for some insight on the price of the FPO Charizard. Since PSA no longer encapsulate this card, does that raise the value of an encased one vs a none encased one? Also, it looks like two sold for around $2k back in March, but suddenly one sold for $7k in April. Do you guys think this was a legit purchase?
Does anyone know how many of these cards are in circulation? I remember reading somewhere that there’s only 60ish of the Charizard ever made. If that’s true, why is the card only going for $1-2k? Shouldn’t it be a lot more considering the low quantity?
It’s just supply and demand, it’s an expedition card which is a super underwhelming set, the only thing going for it is that it’s a Charizard and has a relatively low population
Fpo is a niche set, I still think the alot of people are unaware of the fpo cards or are just not that interested in them if you compare this to something like a base charizard where even the most casual collectors or investors in pokemon know what this card is and what it’s about. If you have $2000 dollars to spend do you buy the fpo charizard or a PSA 10 base unlimited charizard or psa 9 base shadowless Charizard given the choice.
Saying that I really love this card, the artwork, and the story behind it, I own a beckett encapsulated copy and it’s one of my favourite cards in my collection. Also I definitely think it’s worth more encapsulated to preserve the card. I believe the number of these cards is between 50-60 in total.
I think the price depends alot on just supply and demand. Some cards been sitting on ebay for a while, so I don’t think prices will rise unless all those copies are bought out.
As with most releases, These numbers are not absolute. I know people with product outside of what is mentioned above.
Fpo’s are interesting as you didn’t hear a word about them for years, and now they are always listed. The pricing and valuation is about as speculative as crypto currency.
The FPO’s that sit in a PSA case will always demand a premium as they don’t encapsulate them anymore. And charizard being charizard will always be right up there.
You posted in the most undervalued charizard thread that you recently purchased a PSA 10 FPO Charizard and in another thread you said you just dropped +$5k on a card from eBay seller, canman. Put 1 and 1 together and there you go.
Welp there we go, FPO Madness really goin’ on! Was bidding on a costum encapsulated FPO char, was willing to spend around ~2.5k (last sale was 2 a few months ago?) but didn’t win the bidding war since it went for almost 4k dayummmm
Two of the bidders had 100% activity with the seller. One of the 100% bidders has private feedback.
The FPO green label situation is one of the most snake oil scenarios in the hobby. Custom encapsulation is completely meaningless. There shouldn’t be any added premium whatsoever. It would be comparable to paying more for a card in a one touch or screwdown case.
