Getting Scan-Virus.com Pop-up when browsing E4

Title is pretty self-explanatory. Started happening a few days ago. The pop-up only appears when I’m on E4 (Mac). Is this happening to anyone else or do you know how to make it stop? Thanks

Happening to me too

Same here.

I run so many ad-blocks, anti tracking and blackholes that i haven’t seen an ad in years

Congratulations, you’ve won!

I’d strongly recommend using the uBlock Origin extension when browsing the internet (it’s available on all modern browsers and works on mobile browsers which support extensions (like Firefox mobile)). ublockorigin.com (source: github.com/gorhill/uBlock)) - it’s completely free.

ProBoards is a free forum host and unfortunately it’s riddled with adverts and tracking scripts. It even modifies URLs we share to monetise them via redirects. uBlock Origin will block them all completely and give you an uninterrupted experience on E4 and every other website you visit.

Note: Don’t use extensions called “Adblock”, “ADP” “Adblock Plus” or just “uBlock” as those occasionally inject their own referral links onto the websites you visit - uBlock Origin is open source and not maintained by any company or shady individuals trying to make money.

I want to add on this; pi-hole.net/

Buy a Pi-Zero (or anything Pi 2 or better), follow the installation script and guide and you’re settled.

I’d love to support Proboards with ads but they’re one of the few sites that apparently don’t care about what is actually advertised. “Jumpscare” loud pop-ups of casino or 1.6 sites, your PC is infected ads, redirections, it’s awful. And that was just the one or two days I had it whitelisted.

You can also install a privacy browser or use an extension to limit tracking and adverts online. I’ve used Duck Duck Go and Brave for a while now and am very happy with the performance of both. I don’t see any of that nonsense when using ProBoards. Links below:

Thanks. I was using AdBlocker Ultimate, which honestly worked fine for the past few years. But today it stopped blocking YouTube ads in between videos, so I tried uBlock Origin remembering this comment of yours from last week and it worked like a charm. (I can’t believe anyone would watch YouTube with those kind of ads enabled tbh, since a 10 minute video from a semi-popular YouTuber has freaking 7-8 ads of 10-30 second each in between, wtf… )

Shouldn’t the people running this site be able to stop this kind of thing?

This site is hosted by Proboards. E4/I do not receive any revenue from ads. It all goes to proboards. E4 has no say over what ads are run. If Proboards cannot filter out potential spam advertisements, its more than appropriate to just use an ad block.
