Gold star Torchic?

Hey everyone,

I’m just confused on how/why this card sells for the amount it does. I never thought it was a popular card nor do i ever really hear anyone mention or talk about it.

I remember buying a psa 9 for something like 400 just a few months ago that i still own, so i’m not complaining. Just peeked my interest when i thought maybe I’d pick up a second psa 9 and saw the ad for 3000$.

Was it an organic growth or just some suspicious spickety split lickety ?

Cheers!

One of the lowest POP Gold Star cards, barely comes up for sale, and part of one of the most expensive EX series boxes. That + natural growth of everything has lead to its consistently high price.

Sometimes scarcity in PSA 10 can cause price to increase over more desirable Pokemon. For example Neo Discovery Yanma is not really a “fan favorite” (no offense yanma lover) but is by far the most expensive PSA 10 in the set

Makes sense i had never thought about it that way. Its a weird thing in this hobby that for certain card the value mostly comes from popularity rather than actually rarity, and others are the complete opposite. Not much demand but extremely rare.

The competition from gold star set completionists for this card in psa 10 is fierce. I do think the 3k$ pricetag on the 9 is at least double what its worth though.

Ya i didnt have that much doubt about the psa 10 but the 9 is where i really got confused considering the price i paid late of 2019.

I owned an english PSA 10 myself, was skeptical when they traded me that tiny bird stating it was worth 5k, I never really believed it in my heart, and I owned the card lol. As soon as I got it I traded it away for a piece of pokemon history that I really appreciated to own. Now one sold for like 14k but that auction was shady as fuck, it went down to 11k then 14k again, suspicious accounts, the usual thing. So ya seems its low pop and people get their mind melted for a stupid label. I prefer a trophy card all day, but everyone to their own.

I fully agree with you on that one! It’s kind of sad but i’ve seen so much of that lately. Shady auctions setting record prices seems to be a thing more common than it was last year i think

Sometimes when a PSA 10 is such a chase, low pop or expensive it can boost the prices of the 9 as people will just target that almost as if it’s a 10 since it’s the best they can realistically hope to achieve with the card. Kind of like what’s happened with T17
