"The set will release in Japan on February 25th and feature 67 cards before secret rares.
Battle Legion will introduce a new type of Pokemon card called “Sparkling Pokemon.” As the name implies, they are shiny Pokemon with “Sparkling” in their name. They are powerful Basic Pokemon, so you can only include one in your deck."
you know what else was a powerful basic (that was shiny) and you could only have one of in your deck?.. Gold Stars
No clue on the rarity of these. I’m guessing they’ll be similar to amazing rares and prism stars where they’re in the reverse holo slot and average around 2 per box.
anyways, here are the new cards revealed. They’re textured and beautiful! and I can’t wait to see what other pokemon get revealed
check out the article at the top of this post to read the translations of the cards.
i dig the glistening sparkle on the rule box below the picture box. Idk about the crosshatch pattern, but the cards remind me of the B&W shinies and/or the shining legends shinies, where the pokemon itself is textured. It’s interesting to me that there is no continuity in the art style, but maybe this is opening the door to a few sets of these. Idk if it would last across generations (assuming gen 9 starts in 2023 in the tcg), but it would be weird for them to create a new rule box type and only have it in one set. I guess it’s not completely out of the question of something pokemon would do.
I saw these in discord earlier and while im not the biggest fan of gold stars, this new (sort of) rendition of things seems quite promising! Looking at them as is, the reverse style foil seems very similar to that of Vmax Climaxs reverses except in a crosshatch fashion. Couple that with the texture thats to come and personally i think its a win.
Also with the release of the new game and with Typhlosion being a part of it, this gives me hope that some cool mons might get this cool new card treatment .
It also appears that there is a texture on the creature, akin to the OG shining cards. I do like that. Plus, Hawlucha is a stealth favorite of mine, so I’m really diggin that. Thx for sharing, OP!
The whole idea looks interesting, always look forward to a new rarity / chase type. I feel like we’ll have to wait until we have them in hand to really see how cool they are with the textures and shining holo
Extremely unlikely to last across generations, typically any new type of Rulebox Pokemon is contained in a single generation… V/Vmax, GX, Tag teams, Prism stars… I believe EX were the last rule box Pokemon to persist across generations, and that was BW-XY.
yeah in all likelihood, it’ll probably be like the amazing rares where we get a limited number of them in one or two sets and they just stick around as a rogue option. unlike amazing rares, these have abilities which could be teched into decks. i think they’ll be more playable and with that, more desirable. it all comes down to how hard they are to pull, but i wouldn’t be surprised if these end up maintaining a higher baseline value than the amazing rares which fell off hard.
Love they are continuing this trend of new rarity/unique cards every two years or so.
Prism Star 2017 (2018 English)
Amazing Rare 2020
Sparkling 2022
Greninja has been overused a lot recently but Hawlucha is a nice surprise. Both XY Pokemon… Wonder if we’ll get one of every type like the Amazing Rares.
that was my thought as well. one of each energy type. thankfully this time, the art is more interesting. i loved how the amazing rare splatter looked IRL and how each one had a unique pattern/texture, but they pain me to look at with how generic the art of the pokemon looks (to me). these look significantly more expressive and intriguing (to me)
the greninja itself has what looks to be an iridescent artifact from the scan, which leads me to believe they’ll be similar to the shining legends texture/foil technique
edit: also we know english is going to get shafted on the texturing detail :')
When I first saw the rarity I went like: “Mmmmm K” but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. Having more shinies in the TCG is always a net positive in the long run.
Man, these look fantastic! I’d easily take fully unique artwork like this over the generic shiny Pokemon cards in Hidden Fates/Shining Fates/Gold card set.
