Graded Booster Packs

Just wondering what you all thought about PSA graded booster packs. I have one and like it. Might get a few more of my favorite pack arts to display, but in the end I don’t foresee myself spending a lot on these. Where do you guys stand?

I have a graded shadowless pack. I love the look of them! I prefer blister packs over graded packs though.

I think they look like shit. From the looks of it grading often damages the pack and the cards as well. But they will probably be more in demand in years to come when old product completely evaporates.

I have a graded jungle pack. Honestly those cases are bit bulky. I am not a fan of those bulky psa cases.

If they didn’t fold the flaps and the case was custom sized for the packs thn it would be great for encapsulation but in its current state I’d much prefer a loose pack.

Its been a while but I have stated this before here on E4. I’m the one who started the Pokémon pack grading at PSA several years ago. When I got the first batch back I nearly threw up. With their bent flaps they just looked awful.
I will never grade another pack until PSA stops using wax pack cases and develops a case for foil packs.

I considered buying some graded packs on several occasions, but I just couldn’t get past the folded flaps and how large the case looks. It’s just plain ugly… :sob:

I haven’t looked at the current listings, but about a year ago I saw some graded packs of shadowless that were actually less expensive than ungraded ones. I can kinda understand why, lol.

I don’t like the look of graded pokemon packs (and graded MTG packs) … they look bad. I always felt these packs were just the light packs that pack weighers sent in as a means to get a few more dollars when selling them.

Not into graded packs at all. Might just be because I believe that every pack’s purpose is to be opened for the surprise inside. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a little off the topic, but how many things had PSA approved because of you Gary? You mentioned shadowless, and now booster packs. Anything else we have because of you?

Yeah, there were years in there where I was trying anything to help kick off and then sustain the hobby. The biggest I guess were the Jpn cd promos. I was hoping that their exposure on home shopping to adults would help the USA launch.
The no symbols were a tough sell. They probably got done cause others were pursuing it too.
Several others.
Now designating the error Ninetales is my passion but my efforts haven’t borne any fruit yet.

The fact that they bend the flaps over to cram them into cases meant for wax packs just goes to show that PSA is more about grabbing a quick buck off of Pokemon collectors than it is about respecting the hobby.

I’ve graded three packs with psa in the past and while I agree the cases don’t display them the best way I thought they looked alright and it stops me opening them! however if you are thinking of grading some yourself I would point you at gavs thread from a while back to show the potential risk of squeezing these packs into cases not really designed specifically for them (warning it may make your eyes bleed):

Terrible terrible stuff. Why hide the flaps? Flaps are the best part.

I really don’t like the way how Pokemon packs look inside the PSA case. If they could make a new kind of case for packs where there’s no need for folding and it would be closer the look of the case of normal cards, I think that would be perfect. Then I would even consider grading packs with artworks that I like. For now, I’ll stay away…

They use the excuse that there isn’t enough interest for them to develop a custom case for them. But it’s the way they do it currently that prevents the interest imo. I’d definitely grade packs if they didn’t ruin them and I’m sure others would too.
