Grading Packs with PSA

Hello!
First post here. Im going to be cracking a WTOC booster box soon and I wanted to get some of the packs graded. I don’t have any experience with it at all. Do box fresh packs typically grade at a 9 and 10?

I’ve never really seen and lower grades for packs.

Also is PSA only using the new cases for the packs now? I’d hate to get it graded and get it back in the old case where the back is folded.

which box are you opening? Some sets have better pack quality than others even within WOTC. Not that I am looking particularly hard for them, but Ive only seen 1 psa 8 graded wotc pack and it sold for less than an unslabbed pack so Id imagine people are cracking lower grades

It’s a 1st edition team rocket box. Ideally id like to have at Psa 10 art set. But I’d settle for 9s

Ah those pack arts are mostly dark colors so unless there are strong creases on the folds I think it would probably be one of the easier packs to grade and you’d likely get a lot of 10s. It gets hard with sets like aquapolis with that silver color (same reason there are issues with T17 and lugia sort of)

Ahhhh gotcha gotcha. So is that what they look for one grading? Pretty much just creases or stains?

From my experience a lot of wotc packs have a weird crease/vein type thing on the back flap which can deduct points. Obv packs can scratch just like holos can but its usually not so bad from a box at all. Besides the crease thing, packs often times leave a weird imprint on one another from sitting on top of each other for a long time (Very prevalent in EX packs, but I think the wrapping is made of a different material than wotc packs)

I will definitely look out for that then! Even with the crease/vein do you think a pack would still get a 9? If there isn’t any other damage to it.

From the ones Ive graded and the ones Ive seen if thats the only damage then they can still get 9s

I know what you mean - those old cases where they fold the booster is actually painful to see!

It really is!! Just terrible, so glad they fixed it
