Grading sealed cards?

Well, hello there PokéPeople! Wondering if any of you guys have heared about or seen any graded cards that are still factory sealed? There’s a lot of promo cards and such that come factory sealed, like this Base Set Machamp .

I might be trippin’ but hey, it’s worth asking.

TCA likes them and started PSA grading some in their original wrappers

Example

I am not liking the case they put them in. Seems like they can move around all over the place.

I didn’t know they graded sealed cards - wow!

Thanks for sharing, I do like that the sealed cards are protected like this as I don’t enjoy seeing some collectors having them loose with not much respect.

To be clear, they are not grading the card. They are grading the pack the card is in. It’s basically just the pack grading service. If the card somehow gets chipped and dented without the wrapper sustaining any meaningful damage, it can still grade 10.

@miraclegro, That’s insane to me! I would be careful buying those then because you could potentially get a crappy card…but would it matter if the pack is graded at a 10?

A bit off topic but how do they charge for doing promo coins? I couldn’t find any info on their site

Dont do it, they look so ugly slabbed, even worse than graded packs.

If you grade your packs you shouldn’t call yourself a collector

They charge them the same as cards (in my experience). They say it needs to be a separate order, but i’ve gotten away with adding it to my normal one.

That seems exactly what a collector would do though.

I agree. Depending on the set wouldn’t the pack be worth more than what you could pull and then grade? Die hard collectors frame cereal boxes and the like, I’d say graded coins and unopened packs hold a little more appeal.

Thank you!

I don’t understand the point of grading cards in clear plastic wraps. Seems excessive.

From what we understand you’re grading the sleeve not the card which is the weirdest thing. Encapsulating a sleeved card does seem excessive though it’s another level of collect-ability.

It is another level but it also doesn’t sound, or look, aesthetic.
