Grading WOTC holos that aren’t pack fresh?

First off, it seems the general consensus has been: get any base set 1st-ed, shadowless, and unlimited holo card graded despite its overall condition. The resell value makes it worth it in the long run plus authenticates the card (Please let me know if I’m off base here)

Secondly, it seems like any 1st-ed WOTC holo is also worth grading, despite condition, due to the limited print run and their higher desirability.

It doesn’t sound like there’s a recommendation to grade non 1st-Ed WOTC holos unless they are pack fresh.

My main question: I have several jungle, base2, rocket, etc holos that are not 1st-ed between LP and NM condition. Probably PSA 5 or 7 based on other cards I have at that grading range. Is it still not worth sending these in?

@mythic, at the end of the day, its really up to you and what purpose grading will serve in how you collect.

Lets break this down a little bit further: grading can be used for several different reasons, as you seem to have already touched on a few (authentication, added value) but could also be done for other reasons such as having a card more well protected in a slab, or collecting specifically graded cards. These would be things ultimately youd have to decide in going forward with your choice here.

Start by asking yourself a series of questions: why am i grading these? am i grading to sell? will these cards prove to be desired enough to go up in price over others i have? Do i want slabs in my collection? am i willing to pay to prices of grading for these items and can i afford to do so? etc, etc.

All and all, regardless of something being wotc or not, no one can predict the future with the market. The key is focusing in on why you are planning to do any grading at all and moving from there by with what will work best for you. Hope this helps.

For me anything less than PSA 8 unlimited WOTC depends on the cards.

I’ll grade a PSA 5 - 7 Snorlax, but not a Venomoth.

I’ll grade a PSA 5 - 7 Dragonite, but not a Muk.

Basically, the most popular unlimited holos are worth grading to me even under mint condition.
