Guide to the Pokemon Card Game Players Club Promos

Perhaps best known for producing the Gold star eeveelutions, The Pokemon Card Games Players Club (PCGP) promos span from 2003-2007 and include some of the coolest new back Japanese Promos.

To read about how the club operated, check out the full article here: pokumon.com/article/pokemon-players-club/

Some highlights

  • Players could team up with their local friends and establish a “Player’s Gym” to earn EXP points. In fact, this was the easiest way to accumulate points if you had a solid group to host and attend with.
  • Sealed packs of the PLAY promos included up to 9 different cards, since players would get both the current and previous season’s promos by subscribing.
  • Gold Star Umbreon required players to attend and compete in over 190 events if they did nothing else to gain EXP. More realistically, a player would probably have to attend 100 events to get enough EXP to get this card, which is still a ton

The PCGP also was the source of many official goods used to play the TCG, including playmats, card sleeves, and deck boxes.

As always, let me know if you spot any errors or have more pics for me to add to the articles. Cheers!

Love these guides and super detailed info on the website! Also thank you for including sources, Bulbapedia is sorely lacking especially for the harder to track down information about Japanese events/releases.

P.S - Also enjoying other articles on the website

Another fantastic article. One minor correction - the 4th season kit also contained a Pokémon Card Fan 008/PLAY, for a total of 7 cards.

Great catch! I’ve updated the article with this correction and added a note to the Battle Road section pokumon.com/article/pokemon-players-club/#Battle_Road_Attendance_Promos

I feel like I should’ve known this since I actually opened a sealed pack of the 4th season kit and was wondering why I had a copy of the 008/PLAY card sitting in the same binder page
