Everything else can be put in C-tier. I’m pretty confident on my S-tier and D-tier. I don’t really hate the D-tier ones, in fact I think they’re so bad it’s actually good (and hilarious).
By the way I like these tier list things. They give a neat overview of the abundance of artworks.

They didn’t really screw gyarados up too bad over the years unlike most other pokemon.

I think gyarados has a higher % shiny version cards probably than any other pokemon by a lot.

It makes sense, since the red Gyarados was the first Shining Pokemon of almost everyone who played the earlier generations of Pokemon games. Everyone had the chance to get one in Gold/Silver/Crytal.

Btw the cards inside a tier are not in specific order in any of the tierlists I’ve done so the order inside a tier doesn’t mean anything. Only the tier matters. Thought I would mention that as well.

There’s two thing I dislike in a Pokemon card: CGI and Tomokazu Komiya. Sorry not sorry. Also I like that the AOR Prerelease Gyarados is one of only two that’s ever been drawn with his mouth closed.

Great Pokémon for this! And one of my favorites
Really enjoyed this list, primarily because everyone had the OG Shining Gyarados in the S tier.
Without a doubt one of the best artworks out there… my actual personal favorite card made despite the fact Gyarados is not my favorite Pokemon (although it is up there). I think it’s in part due to how badass Gyarados is in the anime growing up, and the significance of the Red Gyarados in the main series games.
Holon Phantoms one is no doubt cool, and I remember buying a lot of those packs back in the day to try and pull that one but looking back now, it really doesn’t compare artwork wise.
The Neo Destiny one looks so vicious and godly, whilst the Gold Star is quite a bit more cartoonish and I dare say cute. Probably why I was never a fan of the Dark Gyarados either from Rocket!

I’ll go on a whim, when it comes to background premise, design and overall cardography: Gyarados is THE fucking Pokémon GigaChad.
Which in meme ways symbolically means Magikarp is the virgin yet if you’re on this forum you know that’s not accurate.
Looking at it all alone makes it the envy for Charizard, Rayquaza and every aspired draconic Poké since. Poor Aerodactlyl and Scyther and it pains me to say that.
What is there to say? We’re all slayed by it’s presence. Thank you for including Bandai and Topps, the orignal and some of the best full arts! The latter set really went all the effort on the background for it’s Gen 1 era.
