& Is anyone considering using them to purchase items at retail before the scalpers?
No
There isn’t really a point. Most purchase bots are deployed through very expensive subscriptions and users are artificially kept low by the bot devs. You need to be a major reseller in order to make botting work, if you’re just buying for yourself you would save money by paying market value.
Outside of the premium collection, it’s usually just another $20 on ebay. I can buy celebrations etbs right now for $70 shipped, and any recent set for the same or lower. I’d rather just spend 5 seconds clicking a button than managing a bot to potentially save $20.
For the release of celebrations I set up a script on my phone that checked for changes on specific websites (I’d tell it to watch “sold out” or something similar) and it’d ping me so I could get in before the restock emails / social media messages went out. I’d make the purchases manually though. First time I’d thought about doing something like that to be honest but in the end I don’t think I needed it, for the amount I wanted to purchase (2-3 ETBs for opening) stock really wasn’t an issue on release day. Thanks for the love, but I’m buying NFTs of animals these days
Where are all the memes for this thread?
Nope.
To me, its just an extra step in getting my hands on something i might want which I know ill see again and again and again after releases. Itd be one thing if it were to help get your hands on something that has some actual rarity (printed in a defined quantity, ie Limited to 5000) but people are just using them for mainly set releases which to me just doesnt make sense and is a waste of time. Also in my example there im reminded of those pokemon center masterball replicas that went up and were limited to 5000. Those sat for a good day or two before selling out, meanwhile any set that hasnt been released yet will have all the etbs stocked out in a matter of seconds. Seems kinda backwards here but w.e i guess.
