Interesting
I recently acquired a base set 2 box which I noticed something very odd AFTER purchasing.
on first peep test everything checked out, however it turned out a pack had shifted from left to right side originally, so I did not notice the pack on the right side was actually reversed!
Not upside down but reversed, so the āadditional game cardā text is on the top, visible on peep test.
Not only this, but it turns out the pack beneath, the second down on right is also reversed!
I am unable to confirm the packs further down are reversed or not.
The box is already pretty rough shape, so I made the best use of a peep test and was able to push the wall of the box against the pack seals to push them up and squish them to see the factory seal pattern and rigidity. The top seals (technically bottom on right side) seem legit!
Of course I cannot check seals on the bottom of the packs.
Shake test is not giving me much insight. No obvious cardboard on cardboard sound.
The seals on the box all around seem completely untampered! (To my best knowledge) (Iāve handled TONS of modern product, less vintage though)
The wrapper has perfectly equal damage to the box all around, including becoming loose after the box was clearly crushed in from the front, causing the top flap to fold under, and the factory fold tabs have remained perfectly unfolded. There is no indication the box has ever been opened. (To my best knowledge)
But there is one more thing.
There are no WOTC logos on the bottom or front of the box wrapper.
This does not seem typical of base set 2, but maybe more of a fossil thing?
However, I have found some box examples online with no WOTC logo on the bottom.
This box came from a seller whose father had it posted for him on Facebook. Apparently the dad had saved 2 sealed boxes 1 for each son, and this one wanted to sell it. I also got his entire card binder with it which had organized sets from base-gym in LP condition.
The box still smells of musty basement or something and the seller has not blocked contact after I expressed my concerns.
Anyways Iāll attach some pictures, maybe these are actually just some factory āerrorsā?
