Did you know that missingno’s appearance is closer to the day Jimmy Carter was elected and the release of the first Star Wars movie than it is to today?
In 2029 the first moon landing will be closer to when missingno appeared than missingno is to the current day.

I object to this. Missingno is not a mistake, it is a natural consequence of a coding oversight.
Your encounter data is meant to reset and be overwritten every time you enter a zone where Pokémon can be encountered (for example, tall grass). The Cinnabar Coast is an encounter zone, but no Pokémon are present in the table. This means you will always encounter Pokémon from the previous encounter table when surfing that coast.
So if you have your name data stored in the encounter table from the Old Man catching demo, the “bad data” is misinterpreted and results in random or incomplete Pokémon entries.
Missingno is not the mistake. The Cinnabar Coast is the mistake. Missingno did nothing wrong.
