Ive always found the gym set symbols kinda confusing. I get them mixed up and dont rly know what theyre supposed to be or what the difference between them means (assuming there is any meaning)
@pfm where did this google drive come from? Did the owner use AI to get High quality vector sketch type images? Or were these sourced from somewhere else?
Sorry to bump this (I was looking for Japanese and misc. set symbols) but I think I can answer your question.
The gym symbols are supposed to be arenas, right? And the “ridges” on the right of heroes are the bleacher seats, and same for the ones on the left of challenge. The white and black inversion is good guys vs bad, in general, and follows the manga of which gym leaders are with team rocket or not.
… except for the switch of Surge and Blaine, that was probably just to line it up with the video game order.

Hey! So the Google drive you linked to, I’ve been in contact with the owner and he’s made some small improvements to some of the WotC era symbols. He’s gotten to the e-Readers and the Neo sets so far and is working thru the rest. I took scans of some cards I have and he’s converting them
