How does PSA treat "lips" on corners?

I have some cards have little “lips” on one of their corners (usually one of the bottom corners). They are not exactly creases, but they are almost like tiny folds at the corners. They are hard to even really catch on camera. I think Vending cards sometimes have these as well from getting peeled off of their sheets.

How does PSA treat cards like these? Do they get an automatic 6 like cards with indents?

No. The vending cards, such as the one I just bought (the Slowbro red vending pictured in recent purchase thread), have these and it scored a 9. Plus, you shouldn’t be TOO worried:

HAHA! But no really, those lips on vending cards can go either way, but they shouldn’t and historically haven’t auto 6’d every single one by default.

As a whole, from my experience, corners are treated differently than other parts of the card by PSA. Corner dings, impressions, lips, corner warping seem to be more allowable strictly on the corners than on other parts of the card. I’ve had corners with a slight impression into the cardstock – anywhere else on the card that would be considered an automatic 6 – but when close to/on the corner they seem to be more lenient.

That said, there’s likely a range of corner lipping that would have a different effect on the overall visual appear of the card. I have had a card with a very, very small lip come back as a 10, and a card with slight lippage on most back corners come back as a 9.

If you have a picture of what you’re talking about, we could probably give you better info.

@mjs61290, no photo?

I posted a photo right above your post. Is it not showing? I can see it on my end.

I’ve seen lipping on edges that have got 9’s and 8’s. I think on edges they have to not effect eye appeal. Corner lips, PSA is more lenient on. If you have to identify the lip by angling the card a certain way and holding it close up, it will likely be higher than a 6, especially if that the only thing wrong with card.

@mjs61290 I don’t see the picture either. If I look at the page source code I do see the img-tag with the link: apis.mail.yahoo.com/ws/v3/mailboxes/@.id==VjN-gnLsQCVWbmm0w7JZ-is4vjUBT5-_FjPpUvX4V_SpgXpENiDvnMsOh6orkZpUYjXi_iCHcrFD7qiUsca011SJWQ/messages/@.id==AOe3fHkb07ouX9AZyAK7OGg1A38/content/parts/@.id==2/thumbnail?appId=YMailNorrinLaunch, but if I go to that link I get an error. Given the link starts with email, you’ll probably have to have authorization. Simply download the image, re-upload it elsewhere (i.e. imgur.com), and use that instead. :blush:

I have two PSA 8s in my collection that are absolutely mint aside from this exact flaw. They are from the 43X range.

@smpratte mentioned in a video about a year ago that a whole Vending submission of him got only 9s because of no other apparent reason than those lips.
If that’s still how they do it, there is no way any Vending card can get a 10 ever again.
