Anyone know how many Official TCG cards exist? I can’t believe this never crossed my mind…
If you count all languages, probably more than 50,000.
Over 2k base set cards, so a lot.
If we go by sets its around 16k, if we add promos and other releases I think we would close in on 25-30k. This is only for English and Japanese. Add German, Italian, spanish, thai, chinese, russian and the other languages I think we are over the 100k mark.
Impossible to say, but thats just my tought prosses
I have every English card in my spreadsheet, I think it’s about 45,000 (will double check in the morning).
Hard to say. 75k for sure, but probably around 125k would be my estimation across all languages and variations.
I make lists of all languages and variations of a single Pokémon pretty often. For now, I’m just gonna ignore generation 8 completely, as well as the lists with the most and least amount of individual TCG cards across all languages and variations (i.e. Pikachu (>1250); Unown (~1000); Charizard (~660); Raichu (~600); …; Mantyke (17); Bonsly (17); Chingling (~25); Mine Jr. (~30)). The average I’ve seen of the 87 lists I’ve made thus far is around 125 or so (actually higher due to the many generation 1 Pokémon lists I’ve made, so I’ve lowered it a bit). Multiply that by the amount of Pokémon in the first 7 generations (809), I end up at 101,125. This is without any generation 8 Pokémon, but those can be ignored in this rough average. BUT, it’s also without any Trainer nor Energy card in any language, which would definitely add at least 20k more cards.
Also, I think this amount will probably continue to rise pretty rapidly in the years to come. In 2019 alone more than 200 Pikachu cards have been released across all languages and variations. This is mostly because right now there are 11 languages actively releasing cards: English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian. Based on what we’ve seen with Dutch, Russian, and Polish cards, as well as Chinese in the past, I don’t think Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian cards will continue for years and years, but the other eight languages are pretty consistent (Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean maybe not very consistent for every set, but they do still print cards almost every year). And who knows, maybe even more new languages might be added in the future.

Probably millions, if not billions. They’ve been printing those bad boys indiscriminately for over 20 years.
I understand the language variants but I was leaning more to how many unique artworks are there. Or for example only counting the artwork in whichever language it came out first. Counting in the same artwork in a different language as being a different card is kind of redundant.
Well, that’s a completely different question, haha.
There are right now 237 unique Pikachu artworks, but the average across all 890 Pokémon is probably 11 or so (just a guess, since there are quite a few Pokémon with just 1-3 artworks in the last few generations. And even in generation 1 there are quite a few with 10-15 artwork; and Kadabra with 7 having the least amount for generation 1). So that totals to 9790.
If I go to any Energy page on Bulbapedia and look at the different designs (of the artwork + background itself, so Base Set is the same as Expedition Base Set despite the E-reader borders): 14 for the standard Energies (times 6); 13 for Darkness and Metal; 7 for Fairy; and 7 for Double Colorless Energy. 63 other Energy cards, and let’s say +25 for different variants (i.e. 5 Rainbow, 3 Recycle, etc). So that’s 212 unique Energy artworks.
And Trainers no idea how to calculate effectively, except that there are 156 unique Full Art Supporter Trainer cards, since I collect them. But let’s just say roughly 2.5k.
Putting it all together (9790+212+2500) would make 12502, so let’s round it to 12.5k amount of unique artworks for the TCG. As estimated range, probably between 10k and 15k.

I knew I could count on you. Ima go with that.
