Hello just a quick question. I’ve been following a lot of Instagram accounts that sell Pokemon cards, how safe am I buying cards from sellers through PayPal using goods and services, I’ve seen a few sellers that have good feedback and shops on eBay is there any scams I should be aware of before I make any purchases ?

I’ve had general success on Instagram though most of my purchases have been small. Just make sure that the person is reputable, check around to listen to other buyer’s opinions on the seller, and if it’s always using goods and services, Paypal gives you protections. I’ve made one large-ish purchase through IG but that was because I knew who the person was.
The only scams I’m aware of are those who don’t have many posts/followers/etc. who try to get you to use Friends and Family (as a general rule, I NEVER use Friends and Family except with single digit purchases). People who bully you into making a purchase, don’t provide adequate pictures, etc. Another scam, though not as widespread seen as one, are the PAY TO ENTER LOTTERY ones.
Agreed. I too have had a lot of successful purchases via IG. Just use goods and services and you should be fine.
Thankyou, yeah I’m currently trying to piece together who is reputable, I’ve found one seller who I think I can trust who I’d like to buy cards from, he has an eBay shop with 420 100 percent reviews, and have checked his Instagram and has around 600 followers with photos that would suggest he’s an avid Pokemon collector that has plenty of knowledge, the cards I would like to purchase from him if he can do me a good deal will be a big purchase to me, but I’m also a bit apprehensive as this will be my first big purchase outside of eBay etc, the PayPal buyer protection makes me feel I’ll be a lot safer, and I think I’ve done all I can to check that he’s legit, it’s a case whether I want to take the risk, hearing you’ve had success has helped me thankyou

just buy from trusted sellers. use g&s and dont get involved in any drama.

Just get the seller to send you an invoice through PayPal and you’ll be fine.
This was a very helpful thread. I have never purchased cards through Instagram before but have considered due to better prices. The tips here are great and inspire me to give it a try!
On a further note, is there a sticky thread or something similar on E4 that sets out E4 members’ instagram shops? I and I am sure many others would be able to shop with much more confidence on Instagram through them.

Here is a list ome of the cards that I’ve bought off of Instagram: 1st edition psa 9 base set charizard, Kamex psa 8 computer error, Happy New Year Special Card, set of 3 pack art base set 1st edition booster packs, unlimited base set booster box, 10 base set shadowless blister packs…I’ve never had a problem and I only use goods and services through PayPal. In fact, I’ve had more issues with Ebay.
