How the heck are some of you buying pokemon cards right now? 2023

Don’t mean to be a naysayer but the economy seems to have gotten a tad rougher recently.

So how are some people able to buy Pokemon cards during these times? wtf

Are you buying because you are enjoying the journey of collecting and continue to add to the collection?

I had to take a break from buying cards for awhile to focus on life and other things. Then I realized I rather buy Pokemon cards so I’m back at the collecting journey. How about you? Some of you ballers just keep buying regardless of the times? Is it because they keep releasing heavy hitter cards, that keeps you going? Nice.

Easily. To paragraph a phrase, one mans trash is another mans treasure. I’m scooping up stuff at a discount. I can’t wait until the next rescission/depression.

Edit: I’m not changing it

Im in healthcare and the job situation hasnt changed one bit even through the pandemic. Has even helped me in way with the stimulus and not being able to go out. For inflation now days I live a vary boring and minimal life lol. I fight spending money where I can and justify it for investing or pokemon. Before I buy underwear I ask, “what card can I buy with this money” or “What ETF can I throw this in instead?”. Eventually you have a large collection and 5+ year old holey undies you refuse to replace. It become a game of “how long can I go” after the first few holes.

bro, no. You need to upgrade that for sure. Can’t lead with healthcare is good to me reading about holes bro. Cut that shit out. Uhh, adding to the collection is nice though.

Maybe I should sacrifice the sock instead?

In what ways is “the economy” bad now that wasn’t true in 2021?

I legitimately have no idea. I haven’t seen prices of anything increase here really and I don’t know anyone personally who has a job that has been impacted by anything. Some companies had layoffs but that’s unfortunately not that unusual.

This is the most collector friendly time since 2020.

Everything is striking in the UK. Unsustainable path.

Didn’t really answer my question and also demonstrated why I put “the economy” in quotes because not everyone here is from the same economy

I thought everyone here was a millionaire?

UK currently worse now than 2021. If you lived here you would see food prices have changed massively let alone the rest.

My perspective is bad economy or not if u cant afford to buy cards, don’t. Doesn’t mean ur out of the hobby if your not constantly buying. I barely ever buy cards anymore but im always checking in here, looking at ebay etc. when u can afford to buy then go for it. Its always helpful to remember thst those that are constantly buying are usually always selling too.

Collect modern 10s → modern stonks → sell modern 10s → buy vintage 9 → rinse and repeat

You dont say…… hmmmmmm………

This is actually incredible advice. I think a lot of people believe that buying equates to engagement with the hobby. But there are so many ways that one can be engaged in the hobby without spending money (e.g., watching the anime, playing the games, learning how to play the TCG, watching YouTubers, going to trade nights, chatting with friends who are in the hobby, etc.).
