So i bought an unlimited packet just cos it was the cheapest on ebay, but then I thought…before I get into it I should probably decide which set I want:
1st edition, shadowless, unlimited and 4th print (1999-2000)
I’m not too bothered but wondering what your opinions are on which set a beginner should start on? I know unlimited is the most common, however someone has sent me a link to an ebayer who is selling unweighted 4th print booster packs which are the same price as the unlimited one I bought, and they seem somewhat rarer.
I know some differences are aesthetic like holo charizard can look completely different, it’s hard to decide. I think i need a full list of all images to see which ones I like and then get those lol
4th print is more of a niche set imo. Like Acebren said, it depends on how much you want to spend. If you just want to complete the set for relatively cheap, then unlimited is the way to go.
I am deep within the 4th Print, it is damn hard to get minty copies and then when you buy the boosters, if you get lucky you might pull 50% of 4th Print Holos and other 50% Normal Unlimited Holos.
As everyone said you need to look at your budget and plan. Do you want to finish by next year/2 years/5 years? Do you want to grade them and get PSA 9/10 Set? Etc. By taking that into consideration and see how much you can put into the collection in each month you can identify which one you should go for. I saw your post thread in which you open an Unlimited Booster Pack, that is already a start (11 out of the 102 cards are already in the pocket), maybe go from there.
If you want to venture in the 1st Ed and Shadowless, I would start with the most expensive cards, because those seem to be more expensive by the day. Goof luck!
Oh I didn’t now that. I think i’m not that bothered about it but I just want to make sure I collect just the one set. That complicates things if the if most 4th print holos are unlimited lol
I don’t think money is the issue so much but it does go hand in hand with rarity, and I don’t think i’m bothered about the rarest ones. I do however want them brand new which will cost me a bit, I don’t want second hand cards as I keep all of mine in pristine condition
The problem is if you’ll spend close to $5000(2 booster boxes) to even have a shot at a complete set. You’re also not guaranteed all the holos are going to be perfect.
You can buy a mint set for probably $1000 or so.
It’s up to you really… If we’re talking 1st ed or Shadowless, I don’t even want to throw a number of how expensive it would be. lol
He says he wants fresh cards… as in cracking packs and completing the set. I would advise against this, but if he has the money for boxes he’s more than free to do it.
@gottaketchumall does something like this but he sells all the 10s he gets and keeps the 9s so he recoups some/most of his cost.
I would stay away from loose packs though. Even if they’re unweighed you can buy 36(booster box) and get burned so bad. 0 starters, or less than 12 holos, etc… So many things can go wrong.
pristine condition he said. Only way to be assured of that is graded and as you mentioned even two boxes for 5000 doesn’t guarantee him a set, not to mention a gem mint or Pristine set.
Regardless of what you end up doing, just make sure you do an abundance of research and spend time thinking about the decision. I spent almost a whole month watching ebay listings, researching, listening to experts on here/youtube, and doing everything I could to submerge myself in the hobby. After I was sure that I wanted to pursue my interests (WOTC, sealed product, and just collecting in general) I then began to pursue my desires. So yeah, just make sure you really want to do whatever it is!
