I know these threads are probably a bit annoying - sorry. Had a bit of a… disagreement with a buyer. I’m just curious to see what you guys will say, completely unbiased. Can you give a PSA and raw (NM/LP/MP) grade for each of these 2 cards? I appreciate it!
Maybe I just cant see them getting much higher with the scraches on the holo and the whitening on the backs. I have never seen a 7/8 with backs like that.
Totally fair. But could you assume in this case that the glaring issues of both cards are entirely captured - i.e., there are no unseen creases/dents/scratches
Haha true, the PSA grade is an inquiry about the grading scale, less about intending to actually submit. By the way, when you say 5/6 are you saying 5 for the first card and 6 for the second, or just that both fall into the 5-6 range?
I agree with the PSA estimates of the other people. As far as condition descriptors are concerned, the Golduck is EX (or LP or SP depending on your preferred terminology) and the Mr. Mime is MP+ or EX-. This is all my opinion, of course, but I think these are pretty fair assessments.
Really? just about every 7 I have (and many 8s) have backs like those lol. Old certs, but still. They both look like 7s to me, absent any worse issues that aren’t visible in the photos.
I sold the Misty’s Golduck as an LP card… buyer said it wasn’t close. The Mr. Mime is actually a card that the buyer himself is selling as LP. I thought the juxtaposition was interesting. Ended up giving a partial refund but might still receive my first neg in my 7 years on eBay over this. Oh well
Unless there’s something that’s not visible in the photos, it looks like a very run of the mill ‘LP’ card. It’s also just idiotic to open a condition dispute over a card labeled as LP that was actually LP- or MP+. It’s one thing to open a dispute for a card that was labeled as NM but was actually damaged. But that’s not the case here…definitely block the buyer and move on.
This is why I often don’t assign grades to my cards on eBay – I just take very clear and honest photos that exhibit more or less every perceptible flaw of the card. I’m not saying you didn’t (I have no clue if you did), but you will never have an INAD case opened against you (let alone lose one) so long as you list the card as used and take clear, informative photos.
Agreed on the “run of the mill LP” card. And I also agree I probably shouldn’t have wasted my time litigating, it was just extremely irritating and I simultaneously wanted to avoid a neg while not giving a full refund over buyer misgrading… probably a character flaw on my part haha.
I have to say, not assigning a grade may be the way to go. Saves time and trouble I guess. In this case, FWIW, the listing included the first 3 pics that I posted here. In retrospect, they weren’t the best pics I could’ve gotten, but I always do try to take an additional pic aside from the front+back to highlight holo scratches (or other damage) to the buyer. You’re right though - better lighting and this might’ve been avoided.
