What would yall recommend? Especially thinking for 1st gen booster boxes. I basically want to buy some and let them sit for a few years and re-sell them eventually.
Basically hesitating between Base Set - Team Rocket - Fossil - Jungle - Gym Heroes and Challenge.
I have 15 000$ budget… those are Canadian dollars.
I will probably start with a Base Set box since they are the most expensive.
I am hoping to get one for 12-13k max, but they have been going up like crazy for the last month it seems so.
I mainly want to do that cause it kinda feeds me collecting obession and it’ll make me money in the long run.
What box would be the best to make money at the moment?
And also, about Fossil - Jungle - Team Rocket, should I go for Unlimited Boxes over First Edition. Strictly money speaking … they will for sure go up in price as well right? What I think is that ill have a harder time selling unlimited jungle - fossil and team rocket over First Edition in a few years.
Basically wondering about what should I do, i havent followed the market or what is worth investing in at the moment to make money eventually.
There are literally dozens of youtube videos that either directly or indirectly discuss this, it’s one of the easiest questions to find an answer for as well. Please do your own research and please do your best to find out your own information before asking these questions. If you are brand new or only surface level familiar with Pokemon and the Pokemon TCG collecting hobby/community then I stress my above words even more.
This may seem harsh but it becomes very frustrating when people are seemingly incapable of or simply refuse to put the work in themselves to find out how to spend their own money. Especially when it’s something as easy as “Hey I have x amount of money which boxes should I buy to make more?”
If you feel like I am saying this only because you are a brand new member, it’s because I am.
I’m all in on Base Set 2 boxes. It’s the best set. The intricacies of the cosmos holo pattern are a MASSIVE draw to the collectors with the deepest pockets. BASE 2 TO THE MOON!
between the ones listed I would go with 1st edition jungle, just seem like its the least available from my searches. I would say team rocket saw a huge growth early since it has dark charizard in it. Second would be that team rocket or the gym set with charizard.
Hi there @oxmo , I’ll let the others pass you the message directly and I concur with @milhouse
That being said, a bit of friendly advice would be to invest in things you actually like. Making money is probably just a bonus for you, especially if you’re in a financial position to spend 15K on something to let it wait for 5 years without extracting some sort of cash flow from it.
Flippers and speculators get burnt all the time, and nothing is a sure win. If there aren’t that many examples in Pokemon, there are a ton in MTG where people buy without thinking things through. The most recent would be: Space Godzilla, Death Corona “1st edition” purchases for USD $300, but the card sits at under USD $30 I believe as it is just an uncommon. A 90% loss in 1 month with no sign of recovery is not funny.
One other thing to consider would be - how do you plan to actually sell your products? Shipping? ebay? You’d need to establish some credibility first as well. What if the box gets lost in transit, or if people reverse ebay scam you? This is why I only deal with things within a particular price range that I know the locals from my country are willing to pay.
All the best!
(Also why I need to slowly build up my ‘credibility’ and ‘brand’, Lilycove Liaisons. Who’s going to buy from a random dude based in the East?)
I guess thats true, I didnt really think about the reselling part having no credibility. That might be an issue. I want to invest in these boxes since those are the sets that I have always prefered, im not really doing it only for the money, I like collecting stuff, and collecting those would just bring some nostalgia and could also as a bonus make me some money back in the long run, thats just how I see it.
On another note, are there always people like this here? That have nothing constructive to say and just end up saying some dumb **** to try to be fuuny or whatever to new people.
Yah there are probably a ton of videos about this, but im asking for now, since obviously, the prices changed in the last month +.
Damn, or if you dont have anything to say, you can just not say anything and pass to another thread.
Theres these people on every forums, that just have to say something useless just so that they can say some BS
or that they can add to their post count.
here is my helpful but not really any help advice:
if you don’t have any personal connection to any of the sets listed i suggest you just use a randomizer. First edition is always a good option since it holds a premium. The usual way people start collections is collect what you like but if you have no interest in the product itself just pick a random one and hope it goes up because no one here can predict the future. WOTC is a good choice
@oxmo , well everyone’s been really nice thus far to me!
Before I joined the forum, I watched these channels below. As it is with any advice given to you, we don’t need to listen to everyone and every single person (: We just need to listen and decide whether it applies to us
Channels
SMPratte: I watched the entire channel before buying anything. Again, he’s a prominent figure in this circle, and he’s similar to someone within the MTG circle that I watch on a frequent basis (Alpha Investments)
ZandGEmporium
Electric Type88
Pokenomics with Jake and Raffi
For the last 2, they’re relatively new based on subscriber count, so their content will probably be updated more regularly (to get traction with the Youtube algo). I’m sure there’s useful content that covers the recent price spike last month, and whether or not its artificial or not.
One thing I’d also like to add is to really understand what you’re buying. I don’t touch sealed, but if you search online, you’ll find that there are plenty of cases where people repackage booster boxes e.g. filling base set boxes with Steam Siege boosters, etc. So yes, understand the risks as well first. This is also why I do not do sealed product, as I do not want to bother with these risks.
