I'm about to lose my mind... help on V37 settings

I cannot get graded or ungraded cards to scan nicely and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I don’t know if the lack of clarity and the lines are a problem with the scanner or something I don’t have set right. I’ve seen other threads on here in the past with similar or identical settings and they look fantastic. Even ignoring the lines, I don’t seemingly have nearly the clarity of other scans. Feeling super frustrated right now…

With these settings I’m getting this on an ungraded and graded card. Adding color restoration and/or backlight correction doesn’t fix the lines or the fuzziness

if I turn off sharp mask and dust removal it looks almost the same but actually worse somehow

I’m also off to work now… sorry if I can’t reply super quickly

Update… I restarted my computer and scanned on office mode 1200 dpi and this is the result. No idea why it works now but oh well lmao

Every time I see these posts it makes me want to get one of these scanners for myself.

Question: If you scan the PSA case but put a sheet of black paper behind it, does it turn out okay? That’d be one of my main requirements (I can’t imagine it messes anything up.) Only if you have some spare time to try this of course. :blush:

Closest thing I have is a matte black paper book cover

this is with just the cover closed (I still have lines but they’re not nearly as bad)

and this is with the black paper and the lid open on the scan. Note, it’s daylight out and I have my blinds partially open. I’m sure a completely dark room would be better

You might’ve convinced me to get one of these scanners! :blush: Thank you.

I use 300 dpi with unsharp mask on, then I put a selection box around the card. This allows me to do 4 scans at a faster rate. 1200 dpi takes a bit longer, but higher dpi is better for close ups.

Heres an example of what mine turned out after a lot of tweaking with a finale profil.

How do you use the selection box? The only time I figured it out was the preview scan but it reset and scanned the whole A4 page size. In fact… I don’t know how to make it not scan A4

This is perfect… do you mind sharing a SS of your settings?

Preview > create selection box > make sure selection is selected (you can select multiple) > scan.

Another pro tip, if you’re doing front and back images for multiple cards and you don’t care what your file names are, I always put down img0 for my front images and img for my back images so when my files end up in the folder they’re side by side with the front being img0001 and back being img001

Thank you :blush: I’ll try it out when I get back home. I’m super excited to get all my cards properly cataloged instead of awful galaxy S5 cellphone pics lmao

@nish

Yeh absolutely, here they are below.

Thanks for posting those! I have 3 cards to list tonight and will give them a try.

I have this same scanner, and typically scan with the lid open as it makes the background darker. I think for cards where edgewear is easily hidden by scanning against a white background, it gives the buyer a better view of the actual card condition. Too easy to hide stuff when it’s yellow on white.

Thank you so much, I’ll try them as soon as I get home!

No worries, it took ages to get to a point I was happy with, it might look as natural as some but I like it

how well does low dust removal setting work? You ever get missing text?

For a black background I recommend no paper, just a dark room and an open lid. You can put anything behind the cards and have fun with it. Plenty more examples on my instagram. :grin:

@cullers

I know what you mean, I dont recall that happening when on low but I did noticed it on high with dots or letters missing.
