Quick question that came to my mind, is Base Set 2 or Legendary Collection rarer than Unlimited (english)? I know Unlimited had 7-8 print runs in english, but I don’t know much about the other two. Anyone has a guesstimate?
I would guess that Base 2 probably has around the same amount out there. It came out right in between Fossil and Team Rocket, which was before the popularity of the TCG started declining with the Gym sets.
You just don’t see as much of it because it’s not nearly as popular of a set as Base Unlimited (or the other WOTC sets, for that reason).
As for LC? I am almost positive it has less than Base Unlimited. It came out after Neo Destiny, and by then, the print runs had plummeted from what they were in 1999 and 2000. But I could be wrong, of course.
Base Unlimited is by far the most printed WotC set based off all my experience with the hobby over the past 21 years. This isn’t really too scientific, but if I were to use all my anecdotal evidence from what I experienced as a kid, what I own now, what I’ve seen in others’ collections, PSA pops, and what I’ve seen available on eBay over the years:
For my personal experience I have seem much more Base Unlimited than Base 2. I know Base Set 2 is kinda a nitch and will never be as close as Unlimited, but it’s interesting to analyze.
Well I will agree with this, LC is actually one of my fav sets in the hobby, even tho everyone seems to hate it haha. But you dont know how much struggle I had finding a regular holo LC Gyarados at my locals, maybe 3 years.
Wasn’t Genesis the 1st set to be released of the second generation? Can only imagine popularity of the TCG was waning after the release of base, jungle, fossil then rocket so each subsequent set became smaller as less demand?
I love LC. Got my reverse zard, blastoise and Venusaur at peak prices last month. Still extremely underrated as a set. Best reverses in the game + low print + low pop + artwork for first 3 sets. With the way prices are going for the rest, it’s only a matter of time people realize about LC. Still very, very affordable (subjectively)
